Rogue Pros and ConsFollow

#1 Sep 26 2008 at 6:59 PM Rating: Default
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of a rogue? I know some are listed on this site, but I was just wondering if anyone could expand on them, also, would it be best to play on a pve, pvp, or rp-pvp server? Thanks.

Pros; Stealth can be used for fun around friends and such, also u can explore with little hassle.
2 stats to really focus on early on, agi stm. Gear and enchats for rogues make us op.
Strike fear into some other classes. (Could be said about other classes also)
More skill dependant than gear dependant.
Only need 2 sets of gear, pvp and pve.
Stealth, eat.

Cons: Overpopulation of Rogues on most servers.
Melee DPS sucks at times because of AoE
Cookie Cutter builds
From my situation alot of caster and range gear drop way before any melee gear drops
Hunters,Druids,Warriors,Enh Shaman, Ret Pally use the same gear.
Cat Druids at times can out do a rogue
AoE-less
Respeccing 2 times a week for pve pvp
Vanish bugs (not really a bug, but more of "lag" when u click it and the mob strikes at the same time)
Hated by alot of classes so u may be targeted or beat on with provocation.
That Damn 10% on CoS when it fails
No raid buffs atm. (Not necessary, but having some kind of thing to help others than killing crap fast would be nice)
Every class has a self buff but us, unless you count poisons.

Honestly, i cant play any other class, and the cons are negligible when once your owning ***.

PRO: Best single target DPS in the game.

CONS:Reliant on other classes raid buffs for our DPS.
We don't provide any raid buffs of our own.

That's from a PvE/Raiding stand point. And really, our DPS more than makes up for our lack of a Raid Buff.

Someone else will have to post about PvP.

PRO: Stealth, which changes the way you play in such fundamental ways that you don't realise until you go back to playing a toon without it.
PRO: Generally good in PvP, even if you're not in a PvP spec, whilst leveling. At 70 it obviously becomes more competitive, and once there you're playing one of the top PvP classes. And once you have the right gear/spec/rotation you can tear stuff up pretty easily.

CON: Squishy. Have to get in close to kill things, but don't have the armour/HP to stay alive very long.
CON: Inflexible job-wise. You're pretty much pure DPS. The most utility you give to a raid are your saps (which are a really weak form of CC tbh) and your kicks, which are integral to some boss fights.
CON: There are lots of other rogues around! It may be harder to find groups for instances, or places in regular raids. DPS is generally a dime a dozen, but rogues are very popular and there's not a lot of reason to bring more than one to a 5-man.

Generally a PvP server is better because you a) can stealth, which means you won't get ganked as often and b) the random world PvP encounters teach you how to cope in PvP as you level, which is better than having to suddenly learn all the twitchy reflexes in BGs at level 70. Plus, it's world PvP, so 80% of the time it'll be on your terms. PvP realms are generally more fun, IMO, but some people get sick of being ganked, so it's really a question of personal taste.

"Gear and enchants for rogues makes us op." (overpowered am I right?)
Well you can say that about every class.

"Strikes fear into some other classes."
When I see bad looking, hard breathing big warrior who is running towards me, I fear.

"Melee DPS sucks at times because of AoE"
Our melee DPS don't suck unless that player suck. We just don't have AoE ability, but that doesn't mean we suck at DPS sometimes.

Every class have cookie cutter build.

Other classes also can respec 2 times a week.

"Cat Druids at times can out do a rogue"
o.O I am sure I saw Theo's post somewhere where he said that feral cat druid will never out dps rogue. And I agree with that statement. Equally geared and skilled druid and rogue, rogue will always out dps feral cat.

--------

Rogues are best single target DPS. We deal damage in raids, that's our role. GodOfMoo is right so rate up.
Op please read FAQ. Tkanks.

It takes the best geared ferals to equal my DPS using two pieces of S4, one piece of T6, and the rest mixed MH/BT epics.

To put that in perspective, my brother is a geared feral druid. He does ~1900-2k DPS, raid buffed. He's the main feral druid in my guild, which is 1/6 in SWP.

I haven't gotten any drops since my guild was 5/9 in BT. I put up ~1900-2000 DPS raid buffed.

That's 5pc T6 versus 1pc T6.

Yeah, feral DPS doesn't compare to a rogue unless he's outgeared or sucks.

Thats why i said at times cat druids can out dps us, And its when they out gear us.

And about the enchants, I meant to add in at low levels. Getting mongoose and all the other agi enchants are sick for rogues lower levels. At 70 and such, its all relative.

No, the wierdest part about your post is that you said ret pallies compete for rogue gear.

If I was in a guild where they gave DPS leather to the paladin over the rogue I'd stab them. For one, ret paladins need strength. Rogue leather doesn't stack a whole lot of strength.

Ret paladins are probably better off with shaman mail if they can't find any damn DPS plate.

Think he may have been talking about the Tier sets, we compete with pallies for them.

Except for Tier 6, where we compete with mages and druids.

Pros: Girls dig leather.

Cons: People may well assume you're gay.

PROTIP: If you're gay, reverse the pros and cons.
