Anyone have a clue as to what the last part of the Rapture Talent is telling us?

I get that the 2.5% may not be attained if you heal too little, or if not enough is absorbed or something along the established mechanics already in place. The last sentence however leads me to believe that if we heal greater than some unknown variable we can get more than 2.5% mana back.

Any ideas?

Knowing Blizzard, they're probably pointing out something obvious like "2.5% of a 1000 heal is less than 2.5% of a 5000 heal and thus you will gain more mana on a big heal".

I would guess the amount returned slides from, say, 1% up to 2.5%, dependent on how much is healed relative to the rank of the spell, or some such.

You're reading it wrong.

It's basically saying that a 1000 heal would give .5% of your mana in return. While a 5000 heal would return the max 2.5%. Unless they change the talent or a glyph or additional talent stacks then 2.5% is the cap. A 12k mana pool would wield 300 mana max.

I get the impression that really, it's just saying something like +healing bonuses will have some effect.

Bonus healing or talents can increase the amount absorbed by a shield and/or increase the amount healed. So someone with no +heal will perhaps get 2.5% max mana back on their greater heal, but someone with +1500 healing may get something like 3.5% max mana on a greater heal (just a guess on that %, I have no basis for it).

I have no doubt that lower ranks will probably produce, if not already produce, less mana return, otherwise we would be back to spamming cheap flash heals until more powerful heals are needed.

That goes the same with difference between flash heal and greater heal as well, I think.

I foresee this talent being changed in the future.
