So I decided to venture away from my rogue and start a paladin. I have hime up to 20 and as of now I am specced as Ret. I have an urge to go Protection because I would like to be used to tanking when I hit 70. My only hold up is if Prot is slower leveling wise than Retribution. If you could give me any advice or show me a could build that would be awesome. I read through the FAQ but I just couldn't really make a clear decision. Sorry :-/

Unless your doing instances full time Ret should beat Prot hands down for levelling speed especially with the xp buffs to quests between 20-60.

Aoe tanking isnt what it used to be for levelling either. Its a lot of fun watching 10+ mobs beating on you but it wont beat Ret for levelling.

Really though, you should go with what you like most. At the end of the day there's no point playing a class specc if you dont enjoy it.

I know plenty of people that have levelled 10-70 as prot and they said it wasnt that bad.

Edited for spelling[

I did 10-64 as prot. I enjoyed the survivability of Prot. It's a good spec if you're an aggro magnet like me.

Or have a go at Ret until 60 then spec prot to tank outlands instances.

From what I understand ret with sword and board and RF up can tank <60 instances.

My first tankadin levelled 10-61 as Ret... this was fast. I also had a friend who was a Shadow Priest at the time who levelled with me probably 65% of the time. We just dps'ed the @#$% out of stuff. At 61 I went Prot and at 70 he went holy, and now we have no problem finding groups for instances/raids.

My alt Pally on another server is 22 now, and has done 10-22 as Prot. Seems about as fast as Ret even tho I primarily solo with him, but he does get a lot more rested exp since I don't play him that often.

Levelling as Prot solo would almost definietly be slower than Ret if it weren't for my rested exp. If you are in a group of 2 or more fairly frequently while levelling, it probably won't make much difference whether you level as Prot or Ret since having groups will just make the quests go that much faster (and would let you practice your Prot skills as you level).

You can always try levelling as a Prot, and if you find it slow, respec to Ret. That first respec only costs 1g....
