I read the Sticky on Spriests and am still unsure about something. I have been told that hitcapped for Spriests is 76... when speced 5 points into shadowfocus. however... I seem to see alot of resists... was that info i recieved bad? I am just tryin to make sure I am geared well enough for raiding...

Also... Before you call me a troll or anything I want to admit I have done a few runs. 1 Kara run and a boss in ZA... However I do not feel I was up to par... So I gemmed all my gear... and am now working on rep for the head enchant.

By the way... I did just hit 70 on thursday or so... Any other advice would be greatly apreciated.

Thank you.

The posts you read were correct. Hit cap for 5/5 shadow focus is 76 hit rating. You're currently well over hitcap. The resists that you are seeing are caused by the 1% basic resist rate. Once patch 3.0 hits though, you will need more spell hit to compensate for the loss of 2 possible points in shadow focus.

Okay, one other question if you don't mind... I am currently at 905 unbuffed Shadow spell damage. Is this good enough to run ZA or should I get it higher? I mean. I did do a bit of ZA once... but we had a couple T6 people in there and I kinda felt inferior in there... at that time my shadow spell damage was only at 737. I just don't know if I can really improve my spell damage much more without doing places like ZA... but I don't want to drag down the guild on their runs so I have not been going to ZA with them.

However I do see 1 or 2 pieces of gear that are better for me in Kara, which I am scheduled to run on thursday... Really looking forward to getting a lil higher on the charts and feeling a lil more helpful. This large spell damage buff will help alot.

Well there are plenty of upgrades out there that you can get, although I'm a little hesitant to recommend all of them as close to wrath as we are. I'm trying as much as possible to exclude instance drops from this list as they are largely down to chance.

Things to go for.
Heroic badge mainhand+offhand
Bracers of nimble thought (crafted)
Heroic badge trinket
belt of blasting (crafted)
Violet eye caster ring (once you rep up)
Heroic badge Caster ring
Heroic badge caster cloak
get a +40 spelldamage enchant on your weapon
get a +spelldamage glyph for your head (sha'tar rep
get +spelldamage on bracers enchant
get +spelldamage on gloves enchant
get that orange gem out of your legs (spell penetration is not useful in raid environments)
likewise, subtlety on cloak is a better pve enchant

Wow, I kind of went off on one there. The enchants (gloves and bracer in particular) are expensive so you may want to get better bracers before enchanting.
The glyph for head and weapon enchant are absolute musts. The crafted bracers and belt should be easy enough to come by - guilds want to offload as many hearts of darkness as possible before wrath atm so they'll be cheap. There is an awful lot of badge gear on that list but it is stuff that is well worth getting. If you don't get a mindblade drop in kara the badge dagger should be your first priority, followed by the badge offhand.

I found this chart (on WoWiki, I believe...posting from a different computer so can't check).

Quote:
76 hit is the cap with 5/5 Shadow Focus
101 hit before you can go to 4/5 Shadow Focus
126 hit before you can go to 3/5 Shadow Focus
152 hit before you can go to 2/5 Shadow Focus
177 hit before you can go to 1/5 Shadow Focus
202 hit before you can go to 0/5 Shadow Focus

All numbers rounded up to the next whole number.

1% hit = 12.6 hit rating at level 70.

* Spell hit increases the chance spells will hit
* Base chance to hit is based on level difference
o 96% chance to hit an even level target
o 83% chance to hit mobs 3 levels higher
o 87% chance to hit players 3 levels higher
o Chance to hit caps at 99%
* 12.6 spell hit rating per 1% spell hit at level 70
o 202 spell hit rating (16%) needed to hit the 99% cap against raid bosses

*edit*
Of course the above table will be obsolete when the new talents are introduced in the upcoming 3.0 patch. MMO Champion has a talent calculator.

Of course, the patch is still being tested on the PTR so things may change in a few weeks.

One small suggestion that you can use or disregard:

If you plan on keeping 5/5 shadow focus, you may wish to replace spell hit gems as you are over the hit cap. You should also consider replacing your spell damage/spell penetration gem (on your pants). Spell penetration is useless in PvE..it is purely a PvP stat.

I found some articles (as I changed computers, heh heh) so you may check them out if you wish.
