So I got into the Beta!!

I haven't had much time to play around, but ignoring raiding etc for a moment, the new viper is absolutely awesome for grinding. You actually are in an infinite mana situation. It's quite nice.

Well, Blizzard has acknowledged that there is an issue with pet threat, and they are planning on fixing it. I sure hope so. With my gear, I can usually hit a level 70 mob with conc shot, and burn it down before it gets to me. But if I have to stick with the same growl we have now, and try to kill level 75-80 mobs, I won't be a happy camper.

I've disabled growl for more than 3 months now. A growl cannot even hold an autoshot crit, so I don't bother with it anymore.
When I'm farming mobs I rarely use my pet at all. I'm somehow used to having my pet out and fighting alongside me, but it is not worth the trouble to hit ctrl-1 when I can kill the mob before it reaches me.
So usually me pet stands besides me gnawing at his meat to stay happy while I kill stuff... I whished Blizz would do something about pet threat. It is not funny kiting every elite mob because my pet can't hold a mob off me for more than 3-4 seconds (it gets to 6-10 seconds if I misdirect to my pet and I use feign death, yeah!).

Of course, that's why I said ignoring raiding. However given the starter set for premades, level 80's were dying very quickly and easily even with 1/2 damage. In the event of a harder foe, it's easy to swap off to hawk of course, and you'll have lots of mana to unload. I'm vaguely worried about ammo consumption, but I honestly hardly noticed the half damage, and grunt ammo is usually cheap anyway.

Some other comments. The new petbar is quite nice, with more spaces, and much more flexibility. It is vaguely annoying that passive/defensive/aggressive are swappable but at least for me don't appear to be replaceable.

Bloodthirsty is amazing! I had a level 75 pet (I tamed a devilsaur, so it upped the level to 5 below mine) and I sent him to chew on a level 80 mob. His health did go down, but very very slowly, and he ended up killing the mob by himself. I would send him into groups and not have to worry at all about him being killed, even though he was lower level. Heart of the phoenix is very nice atm, you can either have it go off automatically, or you can wait and rez him when it's safer, depending on the situation. so no rez -> instagib situations.

(Why was I rated down in the OP? Someone doesn't like talking about the beta?)
