I have been a protection spec pretty much since the start of WoW and have all the badge gear and most of the dropped gear that I need/want based on my guilds advancement. Due to the many alt Kara runs and daily heroics I have done I am stuck with about 400 badges in the bank. I am looking for some advice on what to do with these badges and feel I have a few options.
1. Convert them to epic gems/nethers and sell them on the AH getting about 5k-6k
2. Buy a bunch of the warrior and/or ret badge gear to make a ret set for use leveling to 80. I have read that Blizzard has stated that most of the high end badge gear and Tier gear will be usable until the high 70's so this seems like a good alternative. If I go with this what pieces should I be buying and are the 150 badge warrior weapons suddenly going to be usable?
3. Buy a set of the badge healing gear and have a full set of that.
On a side note I am a hammersmith and was wondering if Stormherald is still going to be the king of ret weapons to lvl with (is ret still going to be 2H based),or will a one handed crafted hammer or a badge weapon be better.

PS. The money I get if I liquidate the badges will push me to 25k so I don't really need the cash.

Still, i would liquidate. You may need the cash at lvl 80, we don't know. The thing is, you can rapidly assemble a plate DPS and a plate healing set from completing the first half of borean tundra (and I assume howling fjords, but I haven't played that yet). This set of starter northrend greens is about as good as a set of outland final quest/non-heroics blues as is.
There are a TON of things to waste money on in Dalaran, fancy mounts, teleportation rings, who knows what else. When you ping 80, presuming you're going into 80's heroics/raids, you'll be gearing all over again. You've got your professions to take to 450, too, plus whatever top level crafting items you want to make.
And sure, a set of badge epics for ret may serve you until 75ish. But they're still going to be made obsolete by lvl 80 greens. So why not stockpile the cash?

If it were me, I'd get the Ret gear, enchant it well, and absolutely beat the hell out of things in Northrend. This gives you a fair few levels just vendoring quest rewards for the most part, and allows you to level faster and die much less. While gold will still be useful at 80 (of course), it also won't ever be hard to get, and 25k is probably more than you would really need (unless you want the mount that can carry passengers and costs 15k!).
