Blinkstrike and another 70 QuestionFollow

#1 Sep 22 2008 at 8:15 AM Rating: Decent
First question:
Currently I am leveling up from 66 to hopefully be 70 by the weekend or close. I have been thinking about what weapons to get that would get me set for that level and have been eyeing the Blinkstrike sword for awhile and have been saving gold to get. I have been hearing this sword is awesome and if you can get it do so sort of deal, so A) is it and what would be its offhand the pvp? B) No its not worth it and I should be getting both pvp swords to begin the 70 end game content.

Second: Gear... I joined PvE because I am not a pvp person, and yes shocking I would level rogue and not like pvp but just never had. Do I need to have the highest pvp, I guess its season 2, to be ready for joining a group for heroics/kara progression? I would pvp if I had to for the swords, just not all thrilled if I need the gear too lol.

Thanks,
JD

Personally, I really don't think the Blinkstrike is worth the gold (unless someone is selling it for 100g). The season-2 (s2) swords are so good that it's silly not to grind out the honor for them. Took me about a week of casual battlegrounds to get my PvP weapons. Easily the best swords available for the time commitment that a fresh 70 can get. Bar none.

Generally speaking, the other PvP gear is not very good for PvE use. You're better off pugging instances for your dungeon 3 set (Assassination Armor) which offers the added benefit of learning how to play a rogue in PvE groups which will help you prepare for early raiding (i.e. Kara, Mags, Gruuls). Not to mention the other gear and rep that you'll score along the way.

Good luck and welcome to 70!

Don't waste your money on Blinkstrike.

I had it drop for me and used it instead of selling it, and I've regretted it ever since. The only aqdvantage is it matched Latro's Shifting Sword very nicely.

Blinkstrike sucks since it got nerfed. If you get it as a drop you'll be better off with the gold.

It was nerfed? Reduced Proc rate or something I assume?

Doesn't even matter that Blinkstrike got nerfed.

I might pay 40g for it.

MIGHT.

It's a worthless piece of ****, tbh.

Honor is easy to come by.

Awesome guys, thank you much for the replies, now I got a plan to go for, 2 S2 pvp swords and the Assassination set. Now I still need to look into neck/rings, trinkets, cloak/belt ugh... so much to do! lol.

I'm going to point out the obvious just in case, but I would hope you know better.

Make sure to get one S2 Mainhand, and one S2 Offhand.

I.E One Merciless Gladiator's Slicer and One Merciless Gladiator's Quickblade.

Not two of one, or two of the other since it is possible to equip two of the MH S2 weapons.

And even if it were possible it'd be stupid.

Do group quests and work on reputation with few factions.

Neck - Bladge's Edge Mountains, Natasha's Choker.
Ring - Aldor's reputation, Setthek Halls ring (last boss).
Trinkets - Mechanar, Black Morras. But you still probably have trinkets from Terrokar's group quests (one is +22 hit). It's not as good as Mecha/BM trinkets, but better than nothing.
Cloak - Shattered Halls first boss or Shadow Labs second boss.
Belt - if you are Scryer, then one group quests (it's long chain quest actually) gives nice blue belt.

Probably if you look on official WoW forums or go to google and type "pre kara rogue gear" you should find something usefull. There should be also one topic about pre-kara gear on this forum. You can look for it if you want.

Edit: meh, just look for "pre kara rogue gear" topic.
BTW: You can also ask LW to make for you Fel Leather set.

Stop looking at me!!!

I can't think of any rogue gear lists for fresh 70s and I would put one together if the xpac weren't so damn close. There's a great one for prot tanks in their Alla forum... Anyhoo, off the top of my head start looking for:

Hourglass of the Unraveller (BM drop), the SSO neck is awesome, the head enchant from CE when you get the Assassination head, if you're Aldor get the ring.... There's a ton more but that should be a decent start.

Head: Helm of the Claw(Steam Vaults quest)
Neck: SSO Neck of Might(Dailies)
Shoulders:Blackened Lather Spaulders(Kurenai Rep)
Back: Cloak of the Inciter(Shadow Labs)
Chest: Tunic of Assasination(Mechanar)
Wrists: Spymistresses Wristgaurds(Shadow labs Quest)
Hands: Fel Leather Hands(Leather Working)
Belt: Naaru Belt of Precision(Arcatraz Key Quest)
Legs: Fel Leather Pants(Leather Working)
Boots: Fel Leather Boots(Leather Working)
Ring1: Ravenclaw Band(Sethekk Halls)
Ring2: Lightwarden's Band(Aldor Rep Revered)
Trinket1:Hourglass of the Unraveler(Black Morass)
Trinket2:Abacus of Violent Odds(Mechanar)

Thats off the top of my head with a lil research, I'm sure there are some better in slot items before raiding but that should get you started.

That's what either you or myself should look at doing for WotLK as we get closer to the start date. The sticky is going to need a massive overhaul. (I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. Smiley: frown)

Yeah... that would be a useful resource. Probably treat it like the maintankadin one by listing quest/crafted, then drops, the early epics per slot kinda thing and keep the "list" open for contribution via editing. Guess I could post a TBC one shortly in that vein to get us started.

edit: Moo's list is a great start, for sure.

Very nice GoM ... I have a few alternatives for rings though.

Kaylaan's Signet, which is the quest rewards for the Aldor version of the "Kill Socrethar" quest in Netherstorm, and ..
Band of Anguish, which is a quest reward from an early quest in Shadowmoon valley.

Both are almost identical in that they give 10 hit, 50 ap and 15 agi (one gives 13).

All in all, excellent list.

There's an awesome Pre-Kara list hanging around the forum somewhere. Just too lazy to dig through a half dozen pages to find it.

So if someone with Premiuim wants to go look...

ShadowPanther has a whole section on starter gear for 70s.

"This chart is used to list the best PVE Rogue Starter items that can be crafted, purchased or acquired from quests with minimal instancing or group assistance."

http://shadowpanther.net/starter-pvp.htm
http://shadowpanther.net/starter-pve.htm
http://shadowpanther.net/starterweapons.htm

There is lots of info there. If only somebody were to put such info into some sort of compendium...and then if only it could have been made a sticky....and then..and if only then...people could read this sticky.

Shadowpanther's lists are full of awesomeness ... I used them to get myself geared. There is, however, a bit of a problem with the way he's structured them. His starter lists don't include any instance drops, even the easy ones.

For example, if you look at the rings ... the start list shows the 2 rings I pointed out above as being 2 of the better 70 starter rings available, barring PvP rings and the Shar'Tul event ring.

However, if you look at his full PvE armour list, you'll see the ring GodOfMoo mentioned, which is comparitive, if not a bit better. Problem is that you'll get the rest of the PvE gear (all the way to SWP) in that list as well, which may blur the clear distinction required for a Starter List.

Problem is, where do you draw the line when including instance drops in a starter gear list. Is it fair to only include pre 70 instance loot (seeing as a starter list is there to prep you for running instances, heroics then raids at 70). Dunno - that's a problem for Theo, Therion and whoever else wants to undertake the task of drawing something like this up and stickying it.

Anyway, what I did was consult the starter list, check the MAEP numbers, consult the main list, check corresponding MAEP numbers, weigh up the effort to get whichever item I was looking at, and work from there.

150+ Hit rating.
1400-1500+ Attack power.
20% crit.

When i was about to start Karazhan, I always saw those stats. From my experience gear from quests, non-heroic dungeons and reuptation factions is enough to start Karazhan. Past Opera those stats should be little higher because as we all know everything past Curator is little harder.

Basically gear list from GodofMoo will be very good for Karazhan (full Karazhan I would say).

Nice posts guys! Never even saw that Shadowpanter list. I r dum.

Though I would re-order the suggested stats for Kara:
Minimums for Deep Combat Builds, in order of preference: 175+ hit, 1500 AP, 8500 health

Crit isn't a stat to worry about stacking for Kara/Heroics as a Combat build, which is what you will be gear-level-appropriate for Kara. Plenty of Crit will come from the gear you should be looking at in that iLevel range. Similar to Stam, you should have enough with appropriate gear, just be sure you have enough to survive Aran's sheeping or a couple of void-zone ticks, etc ;)
