ShadowPanther has a whole section on starter gear for 70s.

There is lots of info there. If only somebody were to put such info into some sort of compendium...and then if only it could have been made a sticky....and then..and if only then...people could read this sticky.

Shadowpanther's lists are full of awesomeness ... I used them to get myself geared. There is, however, a bit of a problem with the way he's structured them. His starter lists don't include any instance drops, even the easy ones.
For example, if you look at the rings ... the start list shows the 2 rings I pointed out above as being 2 of the better 70 starter rings available, barring PvP rings and the Shar'Tul event ring.
However, if you look at his full PvE armour list, you'll see the ring GodOfMoo mentioned, which is comparitive, if not a bit better. Problem is that you'll get the rest of the PvE gear (all the way to SWP) in that list as well, which may blur the clear distinction required for a Starter List.
Problem is, where do you draw the line when including instance drops in a starter gear list. Is it fair to only include pre 70 instance loot (seeing as a starter list is there to prep you for running instances, heroics then raids at 70). Dunno - that's a problem for Theo, Therion and whoever else wants to undertake the task of drawing something like this up and stickying it.
Anyway, what I did was consult the starter list, check the MAEP numbers, consult the main list, check corresponding MAEP numbers, weigh up the effort to get whichever item I was looking at, and work from there.
