According to be.imba.com I'm 1.74% crushable with Holy Shield. Could someone who understands the math behind this please tell me how much dodge/avoidance I need to become uncrushable. I'm kind of confused because an addon I have tells me I'm uncrushable with Holy Shield up but that website says something different.

Anyway, my Armory link is in my link if figuring it out might be easier from that.

Thank you for the help.

Ooh.. Mathity.

I'll start with Defense rating. 1 Defense is .04 block/dodge/miss/parry. 1 Defense is .16 avoidance. You're off by 1.74, so you need 11 defense.

At 70, you need 2.36 defense rating per 1 defense, so you'd be uncrushable with 26 more defense rating.

As a paladin, you need 18.9231 dodge rating per 1% dodge. Since you're off by 1.74, 33 dodge rating would make you uncrushable.

You could also go for Block. You need 7.88... block rating per 1% block. 14 block rating would make you uncrushable.

Nobody stacks parry.. but if you find 42 parry rating somehow you'd be uncrushable.

Edit: To make it simple, you'd be uncrushable with the Defense Rating enchants for both your chest and bracers. 15 to chest and 12 to bracers makes 27.

Thank you. I'm a JC, so I'll make a couple of nice def rating gems. Not sure if I'll be better off with Coren's lucky coin (Brewfest boss drop) or the Dawnstone Crab trinket from JC though. The guild warrior tank says Coren's is better, but neither that or the 41 badge trinket are on the uncrushability gear list.

btw: That is an awesome faq and it helped me incredibly for getting my prot gear. I'm just clueless when it comes to math.

/makes uncontrollable murloc noises

Your guild's warrior tank is an idiot.
The "math" is unimportant. Coren's Lucky Coin and the 41-badge trinket affect your block VALUE only .. which affects the amount of damage mitigated whenever you successfully block. The trinkets do NOTHING whatsoever to improve your uncrushability because they have no effect whatsoever on your likelihood of block (or parry or dodge).

The FAQs by Losie and Thels are great for both pallies and warriors to read up on, if you care to nudge your guild tank in the right direction.

2 things...

first, i'd recommend the enchants instead of the gems. the enchants replace 18 stam (6 stats to chest and 12 stam to bracers). blue gems are 8 def or 12 stam. epic gems are 10 def or 15 stam. to get to def you need with epic gems, you'd need 3. that means 45 less stam. 3 blue gems would only get you 24 def which is just short of what you need. either you get a 4th blue def gem or you stay slightly crushable. if you got a 4th that be 48 stam you'd be losing out on. so enchants = uncrush and only lose 18 stam. gems = uncrush and lose 45-48 stam.... neither def enchant is that expensive compared to epic gems imo.

secondly, your warrior tank likes the block value because it adds to his threat... it does nothing atm for your threat or avoidance. it merely gives you a little more mitigation. dont't bother with those. definitely look for the ones in the tanking guides here. they've been amazingly helpful for me.

you're really close though and thats awesome. i definitely wish you the best of luck in the next couple weeks (uncrush won't matter after that, but at least you can say you were uncrush back when it actually mattered... ;)

If you get Coren's, go for it. With the changes coming it may very well be worth it to have for the added threat it'll give via Shield of Righteousness.

Thanks everyone, I switched out a low lvl gem and made a Facet of Eternity (go go bop epic JC gems) and put my dawnstone crab back on and hit uncrushable. So next time my guild hits Kara I'll likely be main tanking since the other pally is like 10% away from it.

BTW I'm playing in the PTR realm and with the changes to anticipation we're going to have to stack more def rating to hit uncritable. I was uncrit before I copied my character over and now in the PTR I was stuck at like 470 or 480 def rating once I had allotted my talent points.

Blizz giveth with one hand and taketh with the other...

I believe this is the same macro I use to make it easier in-game to calculate. Basically, I'm lazy.

Quote:
/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Need 102.4 combined avoidance. Currently at:",0.8,0.8,1)
/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(GetDodgeChance()+GetBlockChance() + GetParryChance() +5+(GetCombatRatingBonus(CR_DEFENSE_SKILL) + 20)*0.04,1,0.5,0)

*edit: Forgot to mention to pop the shield, then hit the macro ;)

I will have the same trouble. I'm sitting at over 500 defense right now, but with the gear changes and Anticipation changing I will drop down to about 485 or so, just barely crittable. That and losing out on 4% health from the Combat Expertise change my Paly will actually get a little worse (excluding threat) before she gets better.

I was so happy cause I made myself hit 16k health unbuffed, but after the patch, I won't be :(
