Rolling a MageFollow

#1 Sep 21 2008 at 10:23 AM Rating: Decent
Ok heres the deal, my friends and I are creating an arena team.

I would really like to roll as a Mage, but I'm having a tough time deciding what Horde race I will roll. I would really like to be a Troll because I'm good at leveling them and I know there starting area well. My arena team already consist of a priest and shaman, who I know in real life. So please post about your suggestions on my race and also what other classes we should roll as on our team.

P.S. Regardless of class I'd like to be a frost spec, and we plan on being a post WOTLK team.

I'd say Troll is your best bet now. They get a free -15% duration on slowing effects (and slowing on a mage = bad). Your other option is Blood Elf. Their racial gives you a second silence, which is nice... The bad thing about it is that you have to be in melee range to use it.

Don't forget about Undead, wotf and cannabalize are still great.

Ah, I wasn't sure anymore if Forsaken could be mages...

In that case, you'll want Undead. WOTF effectively gives you another trinket against priests, warlocks and warriors. That does beat -15% duration on snares.

Uh, I play a Troll Mage and am unaware of a 15% reduction to snares and slows. I think Moz may be thinking of orcs, whose racial passive is a 15% resistance to stuns and fears. Trolls get a +1% hit with bows and thrown (useless for mages) and a +5% beastslaying. They also get beserking, which boosts your haste depending on how much health you have left, very useful in PvE, but you don't really want to rely on it too much in PvP for obvious reasons. No question that undead is the best Horde PvP race, especially for arena. WotF is one of our few defenses against, hmm, what class chain fears again...?

They're redoing a lot of the racials.

If trolls are indeed getting a 15% lessened effect on snare and slows, I may marry my troll mage....

What Poldaran said; the changes are not in yet until next patch. At the moment Trolls are fairly useless for any class.
