and I still know more about the class than you from looking at your gemming... 2 crit gems in your legs and 2x12 dmg in gloves... over the use of 4 5haste +6dmg gems instead. also 1 point imp.imm? you do realise that 1/5 emberstorm is a larger damage increase to immolate (whenever you'd use it, which i presume is almost never) than 1/5 imp.imm.

there you go again. Firstly, I've calculated my dps values for crit and haste and the fact is that I haven't re-gemmed for a simple 0.1 dps increase on some old pieces. You can clearly see from my newer gear that I'm choosing haste.

On top of that - you should know that at my level of gear - fire does not form part of my dps rotation, so it's only value is for trash. I'm constantly respeccing between a straight destruction build, a Illidan tanking fight, and a Eredar Twins tanking fight. You probably don't realise that in the Destro+NetherProt build theres a throwaway point that can go anywhere without any great inconvinience.

I know fire isn't part of your cycle, just simply pointing out that even if the talent is there simply as a 'filler' talent (or throw away as you said), you chose the wrong one for the very odd rare occasion you'd use immolate (be it solo, group or raid). simply put, even in the situation of a 'filler' there is still a right and wrong choice... and you went for the wrong one.
about the old pieces of gear, well the sunfire handwraps are hardly countable as old, and the legs. they're still imba and any dps increase is still a dps increase and so worthwhile doing (and getting 2-3 gems from badges or your guild is hardly going to be hard).

honestly I don't know how you can even consider to say stuff like "probably don't realise" or "undergeared" to me, I know you've been reading these forums for ages so I know you know how advantaged my knowledge of the class is, yet you still think that simply because you have better gear, you're better than me? now THAT is pure arrogance and elitism.

I've been staying out of this one as I'm not known for diffusing arguments effectively, but come on Jenova... let it go.

There is a simple technique being applied against you, "reductio ad absurdam", which with a willing participant is called "Give him enough rope to hang himself". You really need to apply a mental filter before sayng things like "You should be honoured", regardless of your intentions (which I understand was a compliment from your perspective) it will come across as arrogant and vain.

I understand that you consider 'interesting' people to be 'above the rest of the sheep' to paraphrase you and therefore consider it a compliment, but you make these statements (as well as most of your statements, actually) from the standpoint of an interesting person; your mental landscape you consider to be above the 'sheep' and so you see 'elevating' the worthy to your rarified stratum to be of the highest praise.

Don't you see how crushingly bad this is?

There's every chance you're one of the sheep too, one of the defining aspects of stupid people is they are rarely aware of their own ignorance. In which case, going around to other sheep butting heads and claiming to be a shepherd (to vastly over-extend the analogy) isnt going to get you much respect in sheep-land is it, and guess what; the real 'interesting people' don't give a damn either.

When a debate descends to the level where you are chasing "Im right ha ha" instead of actually trying to reach a common understanding then the debate has basically failed. I cant even remember what the initial thrust of the debate was and Im too tired to go back and try to puzzle it out again. If you want to trap a person like a moth under a poison pin and say "See, told you I was right" then even if you are right you've done it for entirely the wrong reasons and you're still a total douchebag.

And trust me, being wrong in that situation is unimaginably worse.

Give it a rest mate.

I entirely understand that, but one of the other defining aspects of stupid people is their lack of intelligence. granted you can argue I have some 'stupidity' in terms of not knowing when to stop, but actual knowledge, ability to reason, understand and the ability pick up on the smallest of details are also other forms of measuring intelligence(imo they're the more accurate types, but also alot harder to test and place values on. IQ tests can be trained for, exams are well.. just tests of how well you've studied, coursework just shows how much effort you put in.. etc... oh and i'm not shooting down these tests 'cos I've done bad on them, I'm shooting them down because I've done good on them but with close to 0% effort on my behalf).

about the debate... something like 10-15 posts back we actually came a conclusion, the rest is simply us arguing. sadly I can't give it a rest, I'm gonna stick by the idea that i'm in the interesting group, as you put it, and point out two options you missed. 1. that I never learnt what self-restraint is, so even if the other 'interesting' people have no desire to put themselves out there, I do and I have little care of what others think of me as long as I know they know I'm right about whatever the topic is or that they correct me and help me see the error in what I've said (oh and this doesn't apply to stuff like social interaction like you're trying to correct me on. I can see the error in my ways, just I've no desire to change) and the other 2. that I'm normal, but simply interested in the 'interesting' people and so decide to flock with them instead

Depends on the IQ test, actually, and I have been given several. Some of them cannot be studied for, especially if they are of the sort that you are more or less given on the spot and/or without having prior knowledge that you will be given one. And all but one of those IQ tests I have been given has been under those latter circumstances. What the results of those test are, I know, but feel no need to express them, as it is unneeded and I feel it's information that should stay private with me anyway. In addition, many IQ tests rely on response time and reaction. If your response time is slow, it could skew the results. Same if you are too quick.

As for what "interesting" is, that is a purely subjective term. Elevating oneself above others is a form of elitism and/or arrogance, especially if it is baseless or subjective (the case of the variable "interesting" lends to both of these). That, in short, is why I have trouble seeing why I should be "honored" to be seen as interesting, especially given this statement:

Quote:
I usually won't argue or even talk with someone unless I feel they're interesting enough for it to be worthwhile for me to waste my time on them.

No one should have the term "honored" applied to them, or be gratified that someone is "wasting their time" on them.

First time I've ever done that.

BTW, you should all quit WoW and come play WAR with me. PM me for my server and names over there if your interested.

And yes, WAR is the reason there have been no more Beta reports from me. After playing WAR for 5 minutes I pretty much lost all desire to play WoW Beta, or Live for that matter.

Eh, right now I'm holding out hope against hope my classes will be worth a damn - the only thing I've got left going for me is protection warriors (they gutted the survival hunter tree, and priests locks and shamans currently suck).

ya some of my mates are trying to get me to try our WAR, so who knows, about the interesting thing, sorry for offending you. to me it's a compliment and it wasn't meant to sound like I 'elevate' myself, if I wanted to do that I'd comment on my RL achievements :P

back to the topic :) i agree it depends on the IQ test. most the ones you get (online, for jobs, at school) are pathetic. then there's obviously the other end, the mensa tests, WAIS-3 tests and others of similar level which are incredibly worthwhile to get and are designed to test more than just the usual types of intellect. for example the WAIS-3 test is also used for testing a persons memory for if they have any short-mid-long term memory issues (I've been suffering from intermittent short-term memory loss, for which the doctors have spent a year just finding negative results for everything.. so they got me to do a load of these tests, I didn't know it was an IQ test until they were explaining the results afterwards... and again, negative result for memory issues... lol). so yeah, the good tests are worthwhile and incredibly interesting to do, but most of the available IQ tests are basically just for people to boast about, with little actual relevance.

yeah, only reason I picked it up was something to do until Ex-Pac came out since raiding on my server is pointless. It's either a bunch of people who aren't ready for Kara, or people who expect you to have already cleared Hyjal and most of BT. Well, I've cleared most of Hyjal, but only been a little into BT and quite frankly, I'm tired of gearing people up in Kara. So I was giving this a shot until WotLK. Honestly though, I'm not sure I'll want to go back. Seriously, it's that good.

nice. are there any trials available you know? also random side note.. finally managed to get on ptr's LOLz at the damage of rain of fire.. hitting for like 1k, critting 2k. pretty insane imo. i also here there's no longer a damage cap to it (!?!?!?!?) in which case for dest locks it's probably better than SoC, also it now procs the DMC:Crusade, so no more worries of that falling off :)

No, there are no free trials, not even recruit-a-friend passes, but you do get 30 days free once you buy it, that's pretty standard though. I'd imagine once it's been out a while there will be free trials, not sure though.

Let me back up sinstralis comment here with a quote from an important study.

Quote:
# Incompetent individuals, compared with their more competent peers, will dramatically overestimate their ability and performance relative to objective criteria.

Quote:
Incompetent individuals will be less able than their more competent peers to gain insight into their true level of performance by means of social comparison information.

Jenova, you might see other people as sheep, but taking such a public view is a mistake because there will be many people who see you as a sheep or average performer yourself, and by taking your approach you open yourself to people pointing out exactly this.

I did also offer the option that I was a sheep, but that I was simply interested in interesting people. the one thing though that I'll argue to my death is the notion of incompetence, stupidity or anything that suggests a lack of intellect (and in pretty much all forms of describing intellect). modestly, restraint, and knowing simply when to stop are things I don't have
