Any Shred Addons?Follow

Specifically, I am looking for some sort of an addon, or a feature of another addon entirely, that will tell me when I am sufficiently behind a target to use Shred as often as possible. I find in certain hectic raid situations it's difficult to see which direction the target mob is facing. Any tips would be appreciated.

The only addon I can think of would be the one that very closely resembles a macro that looks something like this:

/s HEY TANK GUY! STOP PRANCING AROUND LIKE A FAIRY AND HOLD THE MOB STILL, WOULD YA?!

LOL

AureliusSir you funny.

But seriously, the rare times I DPS I find it annoying when tanks move mobs around for no good reason. Just keep them in one place makes life easier for everyone.

Ok the rare times the mob keeps moving around I know this one from experience... the tank doesn't have enough aggro. In which case the tank needs a lesson in aggro generation or the dps need to learn to hold off until the tank has aggro. Personally if I tank I stand still (pally tank) But I experienced the exact same situation this evening on my feral... and god did I want to brain that tank.

In all fairness, sometimes it can be tough to make a transition from one mob to a next. I find that in a lot of raids, when I'm trying to find the back of a new target through a hail of AoE, it can be a difficult thing to do sometimes. Also, as a tank I know that unless Blizzard goes live with the Borean Burrito for some serious bear AoE threat generation (undead say the smell reminds them of home so they flock to it, everyone else just wants to kill the source of it...***** you Consecrate), I'm always going to have to be mobile and adjusting position for swipe or to pick up runners.

That being said, what I normally do is watch the middle of the screen for the "You must be behind your target." message and if I see it, I run forward a few paces and then spin. If that doesn't put me behind the mob, I know that I'm at the side of it and if I still can't see the tank through the hurricane/blizzard fiasco, I'm pretty much screwed on the damage meter for that fight.

That is precisely what I'd want it for Aurelius. There's a special combination of bodies and flashy AOE that make it virtually impossible for me to see what direction the current mob is facing.

I haven't tried this myself, but couldn't you just make a macro along the lines of:

/cast shred
/cast mangle()

That should shred whenever possible and mangle in case shred isn't possible. It may spam some error messages over your screen in the process, but that would be for some more hardcore macro writers to handle :)

Those kinds of macros don't work anymore. Any macro command that would trigger the global cooldown if it was successful now halts the macro if it generates an error.
