Im level 66 and half way through Terrokar forest. Guild requested I go restoration at level 58 and I've been leveling and gearing in that direction for two and a half regions now.

Today they requested that I go Feral so Paladin can try healing out. How hard will it be to get gear at my level? I feel as if once you start down one path it's hard to change back over because you don't have the blues from quests and such.

If your guild is asking you to respec they should be helping you gear via instance runs.

Your a druid you should be hording gear for a variety of specs anyway. I have 3 bags full of gear. You can bank it if you want but I keep it on me to more easily check for upgrades.

You really won't use much of anything from quests below level 68 when you get to 70. Off hand, I think all the quest greens and blues that are worth using come from either Netherstorm or Shadowmoon Valley.

I've never heard of a guild asking someone to respec to fill a certain role pre-70. It's usually not necessary. You can heal non-heroic Outland dungeons as feral spec with healing gear.

There really isn't much by way of feral tanking gear pre-69. You can get the three piece Heavy Clefthoof set made up for you. I think the boots can be equipped at 69 and the other two pieces at 70. There are (I believe) gloves and bracers from the Cypher of Damnation quest series in SMV. You can get various odds and ends here and there, but gearing even a level 70 feral tank is challenging to start out. If it weren't for badge gear and raid tokens, it would be damn near impossible. I was actually wearing my pair of Mok'Nathal Clan Rings (dropped from reg Ramparts) all the way through to level 70 for tanking, and even once you hit 70 you notice a severe shortage of suitable tanking upgrades in dungeons.

Honestly, I'd stay feral and pick up some cheap +healing cloth/leather from auction or, in those cases where you do a quest and there are no suitable tanking/dps upgrades, go for the healing option (if there is one). No point bending over backwards getting geared pre-70.

And tell your guildies to smarten up ;D

All the gear choices are at 70, there's plenty to cover all off-sets in pre-70 quest rewards. The issue will be when you start to buy your welfare epics. Do you spend your honor on feral or healing? But you shouldn't face that decision til 70.

Step one for you, if you don't have this already, is buy Braxxis' Staff of Slumber from the AH. Best feral tank staff even thru much of 70 content. Usable at 64 if I remember correctly.

I actually had the Braxxis staff until recently when I completed the Ring of Blood quest line for that staff.

I'm now 1/4th of 69 Level bar away from 70 and I told the guild I wanted to go Balance. Thanks all for your help. The post about Shadow Moon Valley and Netherstorm was particularly enlightening.

On another side note I've managed to get Honored with all Outland factions I've encountered thusfar except for Scryers. So I can get the Honored gear too. Caverns of Time as well. Durnhold is SO fun.

Thanks all.

Braxxis Staff of Slumber is a much better tanking weapon than Staff of Beasts. Staff of Beasts is a good DPS wep at 65 when you can first get it, but at level 69/70 there are better easily-accessible options.

Drives me batty when I see level 70 ferals in Kara or with Kara gear but still rolling with Staff of Beasts. Wildcaller and Fleshling Simulation Staff are quest rewards, Dreamer's Dragonstaff drops off Thorgrin the Tender in regular Bot,and if you have a good amount of gold, Staff of Natural Fury is badass.

But since your last comment mentioned going Balance, never mind all that.

I have Braxxis Staff of Slumber. I got it as one of the first upgrades to my tanking gear. Best AH purchase I ever made.

actually if i remember right a few of the quest in smv are start able at like 67 and you can have lvl 70's help you to do them easier. i knwo there was a few as a boomkin and i think some with the feral gear quest. same with some in nether storm. the quest are rated at 70 but dueable at 67 or 68 sorta like WW AXE/SWORD/MACE that you can do at lvl 30 but is a lvl 40 item and you need higher lvl help to do it taht early.

As I leveled, the quest rewards I got more than built up suitable feral and resto sets. I rarely (if ever) had to choose between resto reward and a feral reward, it was usually one or the other.

But to answer the OP's question, I don't think it'd be very hard at all. While I have built up both sets from the get-go, they're always being upgraded. I have tanked and healed through ZA, so building and maintaining 2 (or more) sets is not very hard. When faced with an either/or decision, you have to determine which set would benefit more.

I must admit I am one of those uber n00bs still stuck with 'beasts but, then again in all the times that I've tanked soo many instances I've never seen any of those drops :( and I'm worrking the quest line.
