Rotation
Standard Rotation:
Mangle -> Shred to 4/5 Combo Pts -> Rip

In cases where the rotation may be interupted(i.e. fears, etc.), top priority is to keep a mangle debuff up. For example, you you Mangle,Shred and get feared for X seconds, you may have to apply another mangle during your rotation, when you would otherwise have done another shred.

Mangle Timing

Remember that it takes 4 seconds to get the energy for a mangle. Say you have 45 energy and 3 seconds left on the mangle debuff. Since you have the 42 needed for shred you could do it. But a better choice would be to wait 2.5 seconds and cast mangle and follow it up instantly with a shred. Waiting 2.5 seconds will keep the mangle up until it's nearly expired while still refreshing it in plenty of time to account for any lag/latency issues. Also 2.5s +1.5s(GCD) will give you 3.5 which means you'll have sufficient energy to use your shred in the nex 0-.5 seconds, depending on lag and such

Using Ferocious Bite
You'll use Ferocious Bite much less than Rip. The only time I use FB in a dungeon is when the following conditions apply:
1. You have at least 4 combo points
2. The FB will deliver the finishing blow, or come close
A shred is better than a 3-pt FB. Some people will say that you should never use FB until the last mob of a pull. I see this as untrue for the following reason. Quite simply, even if a FB consumes 40 energy instead of the actual 35 minimun, a 4/5-pt FB will do more damage than a shred. One of the difficult things for kitty dps is pushing good numbers against mobs that die too quickly. Some people will say to never use FB, and to always use rip. A good kitty has to know when to use rip, and when to know that it's useless because the mob will die too quickly anyway. Don't be afraid to use FB, but don't use it just because you like seeing the big pretty numbers. If you want big numbers, reroll. Kitty dps is about lots of small numbers adding up.

Actually you should Shred and then Mangle if the debuff is still up to ensure maximum Mangle up time.

Only use FB if it will kill what ever you use it on other wise it is a waste on energy and that as cat DPS is your resource. It is the main limiting factor on your DPS. Use it wisely.

Also, Rip at 4 CP is more effective if I remember correctly.

I typically use Rip when I have four combo points. I don't remember the numbers but as I understand it waiting for the fifth combo point before Ripping isn't worth it. If you crit and have the fifth fine but if you have four go ahead and Rip. I only use FB if it will finish off the mob. When soloing I use Pounce, Mangle, Shred, then if I have three points I Mangle again, if I have four I Rip.

Here's what I do:

Mangle, then shred until mangle debuff fades, then mangle again. Rip when I hit four combo points. If the mob is almost dead, I maim -- but you don't have that option at 50. If it doesn't look like the mob will live long enough to make the rip bleed worthwhile, just spam mangle or shred. Always keep the debuff up. When the debuff is up shred > mangle > fb.

I recommend getting 2/2 Shredding Attacks.

I've just been using pounce, mangle, mangle, rip rotation..I know that's pretty lame, but it works. Maybe I should try this shred idea! Woo! (Level 52 druid, still learning, please be gentle with me!)

EDIT: Ok, so shred is for behind the target. Hmm. What do you do when the mob is punching you in your furry face?

You should sneak a Faerie Fire between the Pounce and your first Mangle if you can manage. After that Mangle get behind them to fire off at least one Shred, two with an OoC proc. For your finisher, Rip is best for total DPS if they live long enough for it to run its course, but if you're soloing non-elite mobs in PvE then it won't so finish them off with a Ferocious Bite or even just another Mangle. Even if they do somehow have some HP left, my favorite finisher, even though its a little more work, is to stun them with Maim, then swing around behind 'em and wait for energy to tick up, then finish them off with a Shred right before they wake up. Reminds me of tee-ball.
