#1 Sep 18 2008 at 7:35 PM Rating: Decent
just ran my 1st couple of BG's with this lock and it went ok until I get one-shotted. What is the best pvp build at 39? Include a talent tree link up to 40 please.

Your average affliction leveling build should do just fine. Just stay in the backround and don't get too close to the action. When your in cloth and just putting dots on people your going to want to stay in the back anyway. One shots will happen really no matter what spec you are. You could also try a destro build but it wouldnt really shine unless you have some good gear. I just threw some points in there but something like this http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warlock/talents.html would probably work fine for affliction. Hope that helps

Really as the above poster pointed out, your a cloth wearer, you're going to get on shotted no matter your spec. Soul Link can help that, but is not available until 40.

For Affliction PvP at 39 I'd probably go like this:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warlock/talents.html?tal=0502120512221110000000050000000000000000000000000000000000000000

I disagree with a few things in Lathais' build, but just my personal preference.

I'd be more inclined to go all the way to Shadow Mastery:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=Iq0riRbkq

Perks of this build:

- 1/5 Suppression effectively hit caps you since there's no +hit gear at your level
- 2/2 Improved Life Tap helps your mana efficiency loads
- 2/2 Improved Curse of Agony to eke out that extra damage wherever possible
- 5/5 Shadow Mastery, for the same reason
- 5/5 Fel Concentration to reduce pushback, though it should be noted that 3 points is all that's really needed
- Curse of Exhaustion, because kiting is fun
- 1/5 Shadow Embrace, for marginal benefit, and also dispel protection for your dots

Downsides:

- No Demonic Embrace
- No Improved Healthstone

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IZZVx0trhuh for a Destro build.

Perks:

- 5/5 Cataclysm for mana efficiency (though some would argue ISB is better)
- 5/5 Bane because warlock nukes are long casts, and instants are few and far between
- 2/2 Intensity for the above reason
- 5/5 Devastation, mostly to get to Ruin, but more crits means more damage
- 2/2 Destructive Reach to be nuking as far away as possible
- Ruin, because it is win
- Shadowburn, because it's an instant DD spell
- 3/3 Imp. Searing Pain because this will likely be your "main" nuke
- 3/5 Imp. Immolate for filler
- 3/3 Nether Protection, because it is awesome

Downsides:

- No Demonic Embrace/Imp. Healthstone
- Corruption is a cast time spell

Generally, it's widely agreed that Empowered Corruption isn't particularly useful unless you have a decent amount of spell damage. Also, 39 isn't the greatest bracket for warlocks; instead, the 49 bracket is a little better. Death Coil, Howl of Terror as trained spells, Dark Pact and Contagion if Affliction, Soul Link if Demo, Conflag if Destro, etc., and both Demo and Destro can pick up Imp. Corruption more effectively.

Obviously, much of this will change, come new xpac.

In PvP, there's pretty much only one thing that matters. Staying Alive. If your alive, you can still cause damage, if your dead, you can't. So IMO, Demonic Embrace is much more important. Though yeah, the 2 points in Empowered Corruption do no good really, IMO there's no better place for them.

Imp CoA? Doesn't add that much damage, probably not even as much as Empowered Corruption with low Spell Dam, and you'll probably be making more use or CoEx anyway in PvP.

Another point in Imp LT? Well, mana efficiency is good and all, but in BG's, especially as a clothie, I normally die before mana becomes that much of an issue that 1 point in Imp LT will make a difference.

Suppression? Hit in a BG? Where you never fight anything above your level, and quite often players below your level?

As Wings said though, those are mostly personal preference choices, it's really up to you. But yeah, Demo doesn't really start to rock in PvP until you can get Felguard, or go for SL/SL build. Again though, as Wings pointed out, that's all changing very shortly anyway.

PvP spell hit cap is still 3% for a target your level. And ILT and Suppression are still points better spent than IDS for bgs.

Granted, CoEx and CoT will be used more in PvP than CoA, but when you do have the opportunity to use CoA, it's still better than Emp. Corr at low spellpower.

I never had too many issues staying alive in the 39 and 49 brackets (well, a bit more in the 49 bracket, but I had more escapes), so while tab dotting, I was running out of mana really fast. When you don't have Dark Pact yet, ILT becomes that much more attractive (and it helps when your pet is oom when you do have DP anyway).

Also, I usually ran with my succubus for PvP. Felhunter is good, but it's not great until later levels of play. Some run with Voidwalker or Imp.

The best thing I can suggest is try things out and see what works best for you, and tweak your build to what you find to be most effective.
