Lava Lash
requires 1 point in dual-wield
36 point talent
cost 4% base mana----6 sec. cooldown
Instant Cast

Description:
You charge your off-hand weapon with lava, instantly dealing
100% off-hand weapon damage. Damage is increased by 25% if
off-hand weapon is enchanted with Flametongue.

(info from: wowhead.com shaman talent calculator)

Now i dont play beta... dont have a key, but what i want to know is....

does this mean that windfury will be on main hand in Flametongue will be on off-hand??
does anyone have any other news on this talent? IS it worth using... and is it better than just dual-wielding windfury??

Is anyone else extremely excited about this ability as I am?

Personaly.. I would dual yield windfury still.

Get to keep the insane amounts of damage that WF generates BUT get a half a stormstrike (kinda) thrown in. sooo Stormstrike WF proc, within the 3 sec internal cooldown for WF, cast Lava Lash and watch the numbers fly out of control!

Yeah, I don't think I would use Flametongue weapon even with this ability. However, flametongue is giving +spell damage in the expansion, right? So it could theoretically be better that way... but I think with all the melee stats we'll get, double Windfury will remain the best.

i figured as much, does make sense, unless you cast a rank 1 flametongue right before use, and then refresh it with windfury after the use of lava lash

I'm on the fence about this ability both ways. But for starters, let's just say that it's great that Enhancement is getting a new attack under any circumstances. However, the Flametongue mechanic is awkward.

It's pretty much been assumed (for obvious reasons) that in WotLK, WF is the Enhance buff, FT is the Elemental buff, and ELW is the Resto buff. In order for Lava Lash + Flametongue to be valid, a couple things would be necessary:

1. That Flametongue still confers its +spell damage bonus when imbued on the off-hand. I have no reason to believe this isn't the case, and if anyone with beta access could confirm or deny this, that would be great.

2. That the extra damage on Shocks, Lava Lash, and the instant nukes from Malestrom weapon > the higher base DPS of WFx2 + weaker Lava Lash/Shocks/Malestrom nukes - less uptime for Unleashed Rage and Shamanistic Focus. (Unless of course the latter turns out to be a non-issue.)

My gut feeling is parallel to Locke's. I'll be surprised if WF + FT ends up being more DPS than WFx2, though it would be pleasantly surprising if it does.

but what if swaping flametongue onto the off-hand during the 3 sec cooldown of windfury.... meaning keeping both up till it procs, then switching it out use the ability, and then cast it back on....

im sure macros will be created to do this.... but with a beta key im uncapable of doing so

though im sure over time this would be so inefficient mana wise.... that it would cause more damage at first.... but once the pool dries up it goes down hill form there....

unless you use rank 1 flametongue...

what they should have done is tied it to flameshock.... sorta like the way lava burst does.... but instead if lava lash was used during the last 3-5 sec of flameshock duration... would add 25% more damage.... or more than that....

though testing will be done, it is beta, nothing is in stone yet... though will be soon as nov 13 draws closer... cant wait put keep me posted ont the testing if anyone does any....

Impossible. Even without the extra drain on your mana pool, the GCD it would cost you would disrupt your rotation and set your DPS back, not to mention the effect it would have on your normal swings.

I agree with Guadion. It looks like it will be a big drain on the mana pool if you plan on trying to do this between the 3 sec WF cooldown. Throw in the normal 1.5 sec gcd that occur between casting flametongue on your weapon, using the instant attack, then the 1.5 sec gcd after casting WF again seem cumbersome, excessive, and may throw off your wf attack so that it doesn't happen every 3 seconds. I'm sure a macro could help, but I would still be concerned that it would lower overall dps. I'm sure I will try both, using WF/WF and WF/FT to see which is better. But I'm guessing WF/WF will still come out ahead.
I think it is great to add another instant attack though! Waiting for SS to become available can be a pain in the a**.

true both you and gaudion, but i do agree with the fact the it great we got another instant attack, to use during the storm strike cd...

another thing im thinking is it will most likley be able to proc WF... i dont see why it wouldnt.

But it is a welcome addition to our rotation if you ask me

Actually I don't think it will proc wf, blizzard made it so wf totem stopped working with our teammates extra attacks I think, and left our stormstrike be so that it continued procing wf. My guess is they will make it so that it can not proc WF which sucks hopefuly they make these adjustments to the actual ability and not wf because it may also end up affecting storm strike which would suck.

It seems blizzard really wants us to consider ft on our OH, looking at the new enhancement shaman and how it will work and the nature of how all classes work now, enhancement shaman will rely heavily on our spells and our ability with spells come the expansion. With almost no reason to go into restoration and talents like Mental Dexterity, Metal Quickness, Lava Lash, Improved Stormstrike, Static Shock, and Mealstrom Weapon it seems like Blizzard really wants to push more elemental combvat on to enhancement and with changes to raw critical and hit bonuses affecting both melee and elemental attacks then it is much easier for a Enhancement shaman to pull off this form of combat.

Also if you take a look at earlier tree of elemental you will notice a big change here, Elemental Fury has been bumped up top a third Teir talent now and for 5 talent points now even a Enhancement shaman can make use of a 20/40/60/80/100% bonus to his Fire, Frost, and Nature spells critical damage by 100% (unless changed). Going 17 points deep into elemental as an enhancement shaman looks pretty reliable at this point:

Of all of our weapon imbues Flame tongue is the only other competitive option at 70 behind WF. The extra spell damage and the way it scales it can make a great way to improve DPS, as well as increase the damage we will perform with our other spells (flame shock, earth shock, and at 80 static shock and lava burst).

Now at 70 WF/WF will probably still be preferred but Lava Lash and the tacked on spell damage definitely make FT a more and more attractive option I would not be too surprised if at 80 WF/FT out dps WF/WF.

i didnt take notice to the change of elemental till you said something.... but Elemental Fury will greatly increase our damage output, especially since all lava burst should crit, and there is no reason it shouldnt...

But i do agree that WF/FT will become the new style of play int wrath...
