SoC and Imp HoJFollow

So what do you think of, in WotLK, taking Seal of Command, an excellent Ret seal, with Improved Hammer of Justice, under Protection. Being able to stun a mob so much more just to judge SoC would really increase the dps. I know it usually don't work on bosses, but most everything else is stunnable, right?

this may still be a good idea for the faster CD on HoJ for PvP, but especially with this last patch i don't think stunned JoC will be all that impressive anymore. We already have high crit chances on judgements and with stuns only being a guaranteed crit instead of double damage it adds a lot less than it used to. at best this is a 50% increased crit chance every 30 seconds with talents. again the shorter CD on HoJ will still be nice in PVP and maybe even controlling when your judgement crits. i just see putting 5 points in Seals of the Pure possibly being better unless they buff SoC a bit. we'll see what they end up doing though...

With the guaranteed SoC crit you can control more when Art of War procs. Granted with the shear amount of attacks and with a high crit it doesn't really matter, but I've had a couple of rotations without crit (mostly when fighting only one mob) and doing a HoJ + SoC crit guarantees me that instant heal.

very true CapJack. as much as things crit though, i just don't think i'll go that deep in prot for PVE. i'd rather spend talents on abilities in Ret tree or maybe Seals of the Pure. I'll wait for the final versions of the talent trees (although i think we're getting close...) to make up my mind about it though. if they add anthing else to stunned JoC that would be nice too.

Yeah I played around with the new SoC, didn't really like it. I like using Seal of Corruption when I'm fighting more than one guy (especialy since I can get 5 stacks up pretty damn fast and do a lot of damage with the judgement) and for harder mobs I use SoL to keep my health up. So far it's been workign pretty well.

SoC works alright, the bonus damage means no more spectacular crits but then that's ok, Sheath of Light improves its damage enough anyway. A guaranteed crit is nice for the same reason every 'guaranteed crit' ability is, it cuts through Resilience. Yes the crit itself is still mitigated down and fair play, but it means you can build Vengeance stacks faster and as Jack says, control Art of War instant heals for when you really need them.

A common tactic I've been using when low on health is Stun/Judge/Holy Light (while they're sleeping) and instant FoL after they're awake again. If HL crits I don't actually use the Flash until later, dont wanna override the heavy SoL HoT with a crappy one, but all in all I have the potential to regain 60% of my health in one stun cycle instead of around 30% on live. This is doubtless aided by increased healing from SoL and loads more crits due to the mechanics changes.

To the original question, it doesnt 'really increase DPS' to be honest. The removal of bonus damage means SoC's DPS has mostly gone down actually. In PvE you'll want to take all the pure damage talents you can, don't bother with Improved Stuns if you're going Ret. Usually things should be dead long before your stun timer is up.
