LWing gear in Lich KingFollow

#1 Sep 17 2008 at 10:20 AM Rating: Decent
My rogue (who is my only 70) has been skinning/LWing since I started playing him 3 years ago. After having raided in classic WoW and TBC, it started making more and more sense to be an herbalist/alchemist. The amount of money I have spent on consumables is pretty staggering. Thus, I am considering switching to herb/alch in preparation for Lich King. This would also enable my priest alt to be in Inscription.

The one thing that's deterring me from switching, though, is losing out on good LWing gear in WotLK. So, a question to all you beta key holders: Are there any sweet BoP pieces of gear or hot selling items or anything else that would make it worth it to keep LWing in the expansion?

LWing isn't worth it unless you're one of the only LWers in your guild. Drums put up a debuff so that you can't gain the benefit of drum rotations.

So if you have someone that you always group with that has drums, go ahead and switch.

An alternative, which I did, is level a bank alt to 70 and have them go herb/alch. I'm one of the main alchemists in my guild on my alt. Smiley: tongue

Edit: another alternative is drop skinning for herb. Herb is a lot better for money and mats than skinning is. Skins are usually pretty cheap on the AH.

Hmm, 90% of the time in 25 man raids I was the only one with drums in the melee group. Definitely a good reason to stick with LWing.

Well, at the least right now I can drop skinning for herbing and then just stockpile herbs for alchemy, inscription, or both.

Yeah, herbing is only going to make better money in WotLK.

Hmm what would you say would be the best professions for a pve rogue in wotlk? If gold isnt an issue.
Along the lines of enchanting being nice for the 'unique' ring enchants
Im miner/JC atm, it gave me an epic trinket and lots of gold, but nothing special.

So without a gatherer profession (alts can gather gold), but purely for raid/self buffing, which would be among the best?

Thanks for any reply :)

You shouldn't have a gathering profession if you want to min/max for raiding.

Engineering if there are goggles (keep in mind we don't have a full profession list yet), LW if no one else has drums.

If there are no goggles and someone already has drums, then it really doesn't matter. Ring enchants in TBC are an insignificant amount of damage.

This should be fairly obvious if you've paid any sort of attention to any site that keeps track of the changes coming from beta.

Kinda hard to say atm since things aren't fleshed out nor set in stone, but quite a few professions will offer boosts to rogues. Some of them include:

Inscription: Glyph Mastery, access to another major glyph.

Alchemy: Mixology

Skinning: Master of Anatomy

Jewel Crafting: Lots of BoP/Unique gems with about +33% added effect

Leather Working: More drums/bracer and leg enchants Couldn't find if those enchants are caster only or not on the wiki. Edit: Also allows you to become a viking. True story.

Tailoring: Swordguard Embroidery

Blacksmithing: Extra socket on your bracers/gloves

Enchanting: +40 AP or +20 Haste enchants

Engineering: Hyperspeed Accelerators

Hard to say which'll come out ahead in the end since a lot of the crafted gear isn't implemented yet. Depending on what the gear looks like once things get rolling, I'll prolly pick up Engineering/LWing if the gear is good. Lots of things to test once it all comes out. Heres hoping we don't end up having to all become tailors though. XD Edit: Some new gear released today for many of the professions, haven't had much of a chance to go over it yet.

Thanks for the links Malithar :)
Engineering could be interesting with Hyperspeed Accelerators, and maybe some goggles to come.
Ill stick with JC as 2nd atleast

Yeah theo, i know ring enchants are an insignificant amount of damage.. I just wanna be able to boost my dmg as much as possible for raids. (drums are available)
Many insignificant things leads to something semi-significant? something atleast:P

Thanks for the inputs.
