Ret Spell RotationFollow

#1 Sep 16 2008 at 2:04 PM Rating: Good
So I was looking at the new spells and I thought what would be the best way to do a swing rotation with Ret to optimize DPS. Since resealing isn't an issue anymore, it frees up a lot of time. Now here's what I have so far, now bear with me because it's kinda long. Please correct me if I'm wrong on something here, or have an opinion about how I did it. (This is assuming you have Improved Judgement, Crusader Strike, and Divine Storm)

I'd like to see some discussion on this, particularly between the 19-23 second range. DS is up for a good 2.5 seconds, but can't activate because we're doing a CS/Judge combo. Should the rotation stick that close to a CS/Judge? The thing about doing that is it makes everything sync up nicely, if you don't then the abilities get all out of wack.

Assuming as it is now, judgement is the weakest of the abilities, any time they all mash up like that, just leave it out, start a new cycle at 19.5 with CS then DS.

but judge brings in your mana, so its importances shouldnt be overshadowed by other abilities higher DPS.

Why are Judgments on the GCD now anyway?

Judgement of wisdom not only gives mana back to the attacker, but also, any judgement with judgements of the wise add the replenishment effect, a major reason why many rets are reporting zero mana issues. With limited to no intellect on the upcoming gear, this is important,as of course those spells in the rotation cost mana.

Additionally, with Heart of the Crusader filled out, it adds that judge on top of whatever you judge - wise, light, just - giving a 3% critical chance to ALL ATTACKS. IN addition to boosting that talent further with sacntified seals that increases it another 3% when maxed out with talents, again to ALL ATTACKS.

Now the spell rotation is of course going to depend on what we are referring to here. Raid bosses or just normal mobs. Typically, it would probably be about the same as the old ret, but stuff dies to quickly where I get a chance to use each spell once and finish off with the hammer at 35% (not 25 like it was).

The spell timers are as follows on the PTR
DS - 10 sec CD
Judgement - 8 sec CD
CS - 6 sec CD
Hammer of Wrath - 6 Sec CD (this is huuuge in damage, particularly with talents, and alot like execute, hits quite hard, for bosses, this would be up for quite a bit)

For my rotation on normal mobs, quests, leveling, etc....usually goes like this:

Repentance or HoJ if mob is not immune to boost the damage of SoC
Judgement (usually of the wise, as it crits so often my FoL has been instant everytime I judge, and my DS heals some as well) for the initial burst damage as wellas the crit increase of all attacks
CS as soon as judge is off GCD
DS as soon as off GCD
Then EXECUTE, erm, Hammer of wrath
=Dead

All while SoC melee is doing considerable damage.

I would have to test the numbers, but on a boss, I would probably use SoV instead of SoC and judge accordingly after five stacks

EDIt - Although, I have done rotations of a judge, DS, THEN CS allowing DS to get off of CD or to throw in another Judge right before I hit it, then a hammer at 35 and either CS/DS if they are off CD and Hammer doesnt quite finish them.

EDIT2 - just though of it, now this wouldnt factor into a normal rotation, but in Lich I would suspect alot more undead types -more use of exorcism and such

Yeah I messed up there.. I put Judgement on an 8 second CD instead of 6, I'll redo it and see what I can do.

because Judments no longer consume your seal. it was off the GCD before so that you could reseal imediately after a judge without losing any DPS.

now that is no longer an issue, its only fair that the GDC is re-applied. as it now works as a separate power, there is no longer a "judgment" power, they have all been separated. there is a seal of wisdom power and a Judgment of Wisdom power.

so if you press Judge of Wisdom while useing Seal of Command, you get both effects when judged. the JoC damage and the JoW debuff/buff, not to mention that the 3% crit from Imp SotC (RIP SotC) now affects ALL judment debuffs, you get THREE affects when you judge. and the only price you have to pay is a single GDC.

sorry about the present tense on something that is yet to go live.
