Boss/Trash gear sets - am I the only oneFollow

Someone recently -- half-laughing behind their monitor I'm sure ;P -- asked me why I switch some gear out for boss fights when "you can do fine with around 300 hit" for both boss and trash.

Got me to thinking... AM I an idiot for switching out between the two? For bosses I'm hovering around 350-360 Hit, 1850 AP and 28% Crit. For trash it's more like 260-270 Hit, 2000 AP and 31% Crit (21 Expertise with both, unbuffed numbers). I dunno... just starting to feel kinda dumb for bothering with Outfitter for essentially 150 AP and 3% crit.

Anyone else switch out, or am I the only (dumb) one?

Thanks in advance.

It's not a dumb idea, but trash is easy enough that no one should have trouble with it enough to need the slight bit more DPS that you'd get from a set of trash gear versus your boss gear.

I already have 6-7 different sets of gear in ItemRack (mostly PvP sets, stripping durability gear when I wipe the raid by talking to Thrall in MH, fishing gear, etc), so another set for trash would probably make me cry, especially because I'd have to carry even more gear in my bags.

6 or 7?!

That's more than any of my characters, and I'm a fairly hardcore roleplayer =P

That's more than all of my characters, and I have three 70's and a 63.

LOL!

Thanks for the response. I got into this habit back in Kara where the AP and Hit difference was much wider. Now it's not such a gap between the two. At this point, I really don't think 150 AP is all that much help on trash really. At least it'll be one less thing to remember before running into the fight.

Cheers!

*Edit: Therion has (or had) a trash set, a boss set, a shadow-resist set, a fishing set, a pvp set and an agi set (for evasion tanking Ramps, whee!)... My tankadin has 7, my lock has 4 and he never raids. Having multiple sets is very common with raiders and hard-core pvp players. ;)

Heh, just so you guys know, I make sets of gear for switching 2-3 pieces of gear into my PvP set (i.e. different comps I play I gear wore towards AP or more towards survivability).

Come to think of it, I think it may be more than 6-7. Smiley: rolleyes

I also used to have 4 OH sets too, which would just switch my OH, but now I've made a macro for switching to an OH and then shivving.
