Say bye bye to priest racialsFollow

The change to Desperate Prayer is kinda .. meh. I liked having my free, self-only, instant cast flash heal (and yeah, that's about what it healed for - ~3300 with my gear and could crit). Now, it takes mana, heals for a little different amount and everyone gets it. :P

I saw this mangling of racials happening when they took away Fear Ward from Dwarves and let everyone else have it.

Unless I'm making grand assumptions, I do believe Dwarves still have Fear Ward.

Oh, they do. They do. In a version that lasts for 3 minutes and has a 3 minute cooldown instead of a 30 sec cooldown. Just like every other priest. And that's what they're doing - taking the racials away, and returning a few of them in slightly inferior forms.

[Edit]Don't get me wrong. I think this change will help. I found it awkward that priests were the only class where race drastically changed the capabilities a class brought to a group. And let's face it, what human priest in their right mind would not trade Feedback for Hymn of Hope or Fear Ward or Devouring Plague?

I can't help but feel a little bit gutted that all the reasons for choosing Draenei are now gone, but I'll get over it, as overall the changes are beneficial.

"sorry Roger you a tiger now"

I liked the wimpy Touch of Weakness spell because I don't recall a time a trash mob hit me twice riding through and with the spell up. It had a dark skull and cross bones graphic which totally made it work casting. On a practical note I am sure it was effective in close fights. Anyway, R.I.P ToW.

I always wanted Devouring Plague instead.

I, for one, celebrate the demise of Touch of Weakness. Because I always forgot to use it. And now that's one less reason to feel stupid.

You mean you didn't choose a female Draenei for her ample bosom?

With cooldown and mana cost reduced on devouring plague I expect it's current potency will be nerfed a bit.

Actually, they increased the coefficients of Devouring Plague and Vampiric Touch in the latest patch ;) My DrDamage is not yet working, so I really could not tell you what the coefficients are; sorry.
Blizzard stated that they want to gratly increase priest DPS so that they can compete with other classes once again. I think you all know what I mean. The sacrifice was they removed the "utility" aspect priests had in groups.

Personally, I would give up Hymn of Hope or Holy Nova for the Spirit buff. As a Shadow priest, I am rarely going to use Holy Nova (mana hog), and Hymn of Hope's regeneration is barely noticeable; on top of the fact I get two mana buffs just by casting.

Keep in mind how long ago that post about DP was written :p
DP's coefficient went from 80% to 145/146% iirc.

Not to mention the new Shadowform tweak, giving our DoTs a higher damage from our Crit-chance. Nicely done by Blizzard, that one...

It's not perfect, but it does certainly help. I guess we're doing well enough in tests to warrant not having it affect target debuffs; that's at extra 13% damage from debuffs we could get. Seems like that would be a reasonable change if VT ends up going from "borderline overpowered" to "overpowered" at high gear levels; drop the coefficient and make shadowform get crit from target debuffs as well.

It's a positive change I think, but sometimes things die so quickly it seems the DoTs don't tick for the amount of time they should. I expect that will normalize upon attaining higher levels.

Two months ago, actually. Time flies, eh? :-)

Just played my priest for the first time in a while and....I have no Starshards! Where's my Starshards?? *cry*

I guess DP sorta replaces it in the sense of having a "free dot," except that SS actually was free. Plague has a mana cost.
