What's next for an average Hunter??Follow

#1 Sep 15 2008 at 10:25 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,

I've read as much as possible about hunters with all of the information out there and feel like I am not the best hunter for the amount of time I play.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Arathor&n=Kaetamoon

I usually put in 3-4 hours a day 3-4 days a week conservatively speaking. I'm JC on Arathor and keep 125-150 items on the AH daily. I use the gold to buy more patterns and rep for whatever fraction I needed at the time.

My guild is small with usually 4-7 toons on at a time. I have only been on an instance without a pug one time. My gear is mostly PVP with the exception to my legs, which I am hoping to change out with Brutals in a week or two.

I am usually always the highest on DPS in BGs and instances, have more addons then I need and most macros. I've read tons of threads on here and would value everyone's opinion on my next couple of steps to becoming a great hunter.

Where should I go from HERE?

Thanks in advance!

Get hitcapped, you aren't even close. Get the +agility to gloves enchant instead of +ap. That xbow is pretty bad for BM in PvE, try going for something else.

With the amount of time you play you should really just find a new bigger, more active guild. I don't know if you want to do PvP or PvE, translated Arena/ BG's or Raids, but having that amount of time to devote to either one should get you great gear in no time.

The main issue I feel is your guild. If you find a more active guild that's oriented towards the kind of playing you prefer (PvP or PvE) everything will take care of itself in time.

Also, read the Pre-Raid gearlist and aim to get those pieces and read up on how to perform better. Tha fact that you're here means you're better off than most though.

Thanks everyone!

1st thing was th hit cap. I'm JC so switching the gems is pretty easy. Should I go with all +hit or a combo of +hit/ag? With the 6-7 sockets I have, losing 24ag or 16 crit, I thought would hurt more than gaining 25-30 Hit......help?

2nd The guild is an issue, but it is hard to find a good, large, active guild! The bigger raid guilds do not want Hunters! Other guilds will take anyone, but aren't active.....help?

3rd...Been to Kara..love the raid groups and instances. I would really like to get into more raiding. I've read the pre-raid gear set up, and think I'm there( - the low hit rating )....So I would like to take my toon in that direction, just need 9 other toons....Help?

Last the bow.....what would you suggest? An Areana bow? Gun from Kara?

Again thanks for your input.....

S2 bow is going to be a T5 equivalent, ergo better than anything in Kara (though speeds may make the Prince bow better than the S2 xbow).

For hit, it depends on what you're doing. If you're BM and you're doing anything with bosses (73 elites, aka skulls), you need 142 hit. If you're SV, you need 95, as you'll have Surefooted (talent).

If it's just PvP, you need 79 hit without Surefooted (talent). Each point of Surefooted adds 15.77 hit rating, so gem accordingly.

There's a ton of 2.8 speed bows in the pre-raid gear list, try for something around that speed. For the hitcap, it really depends on sockets. If you don't have enough sockets to hit the cap with all hit/ag gems, then go for only hit, and then straight agility if you have any room left. If you have enough room to hit the cap using hit/ag gems, then go for it.

Question, it's been a while (6 months perhaps), but have things changed so much that the Wolfslayer is no long the second best ranged weapon in the game for BM hunters because of it's attack speed makes a perfect shot rotation weapon?

Speed doesn't make up for 20+ DPS. It's not even close, TBH.

Crossbow of Relentless Strikes pretty much murders WSSR.

Crossbow is also a good speed, for BM WSSR murders S2.

Don Santos and Veteran's musket/Thrallmar bow are also great options for BM hunter.

What is WSSR?

S2 is the Season 2 crossbow, vendor badges?

Sorry about asking the details. I should change the subject line to below average Hunter. I appreciate everyone's patients. Hopefully there is some other hunter sitting back saying, wow I'm glad he asked that question so I didn't have to.

I took everyone's advice. I switched all my gems (5) to Ag/Hit. Not even close to what I need(47 total Hit). I am BM with a Ravenger( have scorpion and cat too). I also made the switch from AP to AG on the gloves. So I can switch them all to +Hit giving me 20 more hit at a cost of 20 AG. Is that a good trade off for building a toon, that will now have to go someplace other than BG land to acquire better gear?

I've put my nubers into Cheeky and read the pre-raid gear. Most of the gear listed is inferior, it would seem. So not sure were else to go for better gear other than arenas.....or Kara. IDEAS???

WSSR = Wolf Slayer Sniper Rifle

Can be had from the "Big Bad Wolf" play of OPERA in Kara.

I've done Opera a dozen times and NEVER done this play, not once. I can tell you how to Kill Dorothy, Romulo & Julianne... but BBW? Naw.

For someone still using Valanos' Longbow, WSSR would be a serious upgrade for me... dang it! Darn Wolf keeps hiding from me!

Thanks again everyone!

I picked up Don's rifle, getting mts today for the scope. It increased my DPS by 42 according to Cheeky. How is that when all the stats are lower on the rifle than the Gladiators heavy crossbow?

Is it the Blessing for 250ap when it hits?

Is it the speed?

I just am trying to understand the math......Help please

OH and which macro is the best to use with that Rifle?

It's the speed. There are topics galore, here and all over the interweb talking about shot rotations and attack speed. Basically, it works out that with a 2.6-2.8 speed weapon, a BM hunter(increased attack speed from serpents and the quiver/ammo pouch) gets a perfect shot rotation to properly weave steady shots in with your auto shots for ideal DPS.
