I've been leveling my Priest as Shadow and loving every minute of it, since I mostly solo. However, I've seen some of the things to come with the next patch/update/expac and am wondering if I'd be better off not re-spec'ing Shadow with the talent tree reset that's coming? Like I said, I'm loving playing Shadow right now, but I'm worried about utility and longevity as I get higher in level and start considering doing some more raids and instances (I was actually told "nvm" the other day after being asked if I wanted to heal for ZF. I replied "I'm shadow-spec, but I don't mind healing, sure."

Yeah, I'm not sure what you're concerned about either. Shadow damage should stack better than before and shadow priests should be greater than ever. As for getting turned down for healing because of your spec, the new spell power stat should make off-spec healing even easier, as many (most? all?) pieces of gear can probably serve both purposes while you're leveling. Endgame would be a different story; you generally need to pick one or the other there, or expect to respec a lot.
only concern i can think of would be the fact that shadow priests mana battery abilitys got toned down, and arent unique to the class anymore

Well as others have said the shadow priest is looking real good in the expac so i wont talk on that area at all.
But as for shadow priests in the game right now. In my opinion they are amazing. In my experience as a shadow priest i have not once been told my dps is to low or that im not wanted in a party because of my class. in fact its quite the opposite.
I have actually had a healer get pissed off on vent and not want to raid that night because i was not going (to drunk). they enjoy the shadow priest that much. and any warlock will definatly want to be in your group.
Although this may come across the wrong way i will say it anyway. Being a shadow priest, well a "good" shadow priest is almost a "do anything you want free card". For example i have raided all the way to mid black temple. and not once have i ever had to sign up for a raid, they just throw an invite at me when raid time came. because people LOVE shadow priests.
They insist on giving the shadow priest every buff/pot/food/steroids for free because they want you giving as much mana back as possible.
To me the shadow priest is really the "guy everyone wants" class to play in raids.
now in five man content its different.
but for the life of me i cannot remember a time where i was refused a raid spot. I hope its the same way for every shadow priest out there.

That's the thing though, we won't be unique in the "give mana back to the casters" role anymore. Our buffs and debuffs took a hit in order to up our dps, and it's not yet known if our dps has been scaled enough for it to be an even tradeoff. I'm not saying we're getting the shaft by any means, but (imo) the verdict is still out on shadowpriests for the expansion.
The verdict isn't still out, we're awesome. We were doing more damage at every gear level post-80 than every caster but (bugged) destro locks, and arcane spam mages, and got nerfed back to a more reasonable level. At really high gear levels scaling is a bit of an issue, but we're talking differences of 3800dps versus 4100dps, instead of 2600dps versus 1600dps like it is now.
