Minimum stats for KaraFollow

#1 Sep 15 2008 at 4:55 AM Rating: Good
Okay, I may just be overlooking it, but is there a thread somewhere that has the minimum stats a mage should have before entering Kara (Sort of like BigDaddyJugs thread for rogues)?

I've gone through so many pages and even double checked the FAQ, but can't really find solid info. As I said, perhaps I'm just missing it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

EDIT:

Ohhh NVM. I found a post of what I was looking for:

According to Anobix on that post, but haven't read the other replies yet wrote:
100spell hit
600-700dmg (800+ with mindmastery)
8-9k mana
7.5-8k+ hp buffed

with welfare epics, spellpower shouldn't be hard to come by, but pvp gear won't give you hit or mp5

just load up your damage meter and try a few 5man runs. if you can hit something around 550-650 sustained dps, then you should be fine to enter kara with any decent group who's done kara before. obviously minimum stats will vary depending on your raid group's capabilities, but you're just dps. it's the healers and tanks who actually have gear checks.

I agree LaFey, just the fact that I don't want to just be dead weight, ya know? Thanks for the reply though =)

One more requirement: Mage Table.

But seriously, if you have spellfire, spellstrike, and about 100 +hit, you're good to go. You will die a lot with the low hp, but starting kara isn't quite as lethal as later kara and some of the other raids.

Oh yeah. I definitely know, especially in something like the Prince fight when he starts sending his weapons to attack the group. Sucks.

But I do have the tome for the food when I get to 70. Just need to get water, and I should be set on the mage table.

Another thing....buff up with some +spell dmg food, Elixir of Draenic Wisdom, Adept's Elixir, and Superior Wizard Oil. If you can get an enhancement shammy in your party, 1k bonus dmg shouldn't be hard for you to come by.

Yeah, I'm in the process of making cloth for the spellfire set right now. Just need to find time to grind out for primal fires. /sigh

Farm them out in Skald over in BEM. Great drop rate there i've found over any other place, and not as life threatening as Elemental Plateau.

FYI, that set's getting a bit nerfed in the upcoming patch. It'll still be good. Just not quite as good.

Well that sucks then huh? I'm assuming from what you said, that it'll at least be good enough to start raiding in? I mean, I'm sure it'll definitely replace my questing greens until I can get upgrades after I start raiding and all.

And thanks for the tip Evil... I can't get to Elemental Plateau anyway (unless I was lock summoned), since I'm not 70 yet or have a flying mount. =)

Yeah....all of the tailored sets lose their +bonus dmg to whatever school of magic and get replaced with the broad generalization of "Spellpower".

Guess my trash belt from TK is useless in about two months.

In other news, i'm using a trash belt from TK.

BTW Nocturnal....there's also SMV to farm out primal fire, earth, air. Just north of Sanctum of the Stars. But like I said, Skald is so much easier. Great drop rate (at least for me), and the imps that are scattered about drop a good bit of coin and netherweave. Hey...making a stack of heavy netherweave bandages is the easiest 6g anyone in the game can make. =D

I love how people put these ridiculous requirements for Kara out yet the gear you loot in kara isn't even as good as S2 (at least in my experience I have passed on alot of mage gear to keep my s2). I had around 8700ish hp at the time.

My spell damage was 608 first time I went to Kara and my spell pen is 54. I am not sure on spell hit I think its like 40ish or so. I don't usually have problems being resisted by the stuff there.

Too many people think you should be full S4/t6 I guess to raid KAra. Granted that does make for a nice tank though lol.

You should be replacing S2 with T4 if you are talking about PVE in most cases. There are some decent examples where S2 holds up quite well, the weapons for instance, but in general PVP gear is subpar at best for PVE.

For example:

Merciless Gladiator's Silk Cowl
Binds when picked up
Head Cloth
185 Armor
+52 Stamina
+26 Intellect
Meta Socket
Red Socket
Socket Bonus: +4 Resilience Rating
Durability 60 / 60
Classes: Mage
Requires Level 70
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 20 (0.91% @ L70).
Equip: Improves your resilience rating by 33 (0.84% @ L70).
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 42.

Collar of the Aldor
Binds when picked up
Head Cloth
164 Armor
+24 Stamina
+35 Intellect
+17 Spirit
Meta Socket
Blue Socket
Socket Bonus: +5 Spell Damage and Healing
Durability 60 / 60
Classes: Mage
Requires Level 70
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 27 (1.22% @ L70).
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 41.

The T4 has better DPS and more Int. Also has more spirit if you have an IDS priest meaning it gets even better. Also keep in mind that the T4 helmet is also a lower iLevel and isn't even a fair matchup against S2. What you should be comparing S2 against is T5...

Edit:Nothing wrong with a few pieces of PVP gear to fill in lacking items by any means, and especially not when you first start out, but the lack of Int, Hit, and to a lesser extent Spirit and MP/5 are pretty crippling.

Stam is a non-issue pretty much at Kara level. My mage has been all the way through prince and done Grull's with a grand total of 6453 hit points unbuffed.

Those were far from carry through's either. The first time he finished Kara it was an 8, yes 8, hour slog through of Kara. Bunch of undergeared alts of friends and a couple of first timers with a rotating cast of pugs for the last couple of spots.

PS: Don't go to kara if your whole group is pretty much wearing greens...

Yeah, it's a little pain ... BUT ... it does mean that I can now try out a Frost Build in my Spellfire gear when 3.0 drops. I would have been consigned exclusively to the pleasures of Arc and Fire otherwise (which isn't a bad thing, but it's nice to try all the new toys when they become available ;->)
