So my Enhance Shammy is lvl 48 and I get invited to a ZF group. Ahh, but they need a healer and didn't ask me ahead of time. Not a bad group, 2 rouges, pally tank (actually spec prot), and a hunter. I tell them I'm not spec resto but I'll give it a shot.

We ran ZF so smooth and so fast... it was like cutting butter with a flaming knife. Yeah, I did use like 27 waters, but we didn't wipe once, and it really ran so smooth. The pally knew what he was doing, the dps was face wiping, and I did just fine (specd 39 pts enhance).

Now I've always known that up to about lvl 40 instances it really didn't matter what you speced as long as you knew how to play your toon, your limits and such. I guess that this just adds to that comment. Second, I really love the abundance of things my shammy can do.

So this morning I join a ZF run again, this time saying "Yeah I can heal!". Not only could I heal, but I found myself not being able to stay away from the action (war, lock, mage, rogue). These guys were pretty good (been having the good luck with pugs lately) and I of course knew that I could heal well (did it before!). But this time I would stand back and let them get agro, throw down a quick heal and then jump in and start killing!! Fast dps, love the Stormstrike (and get to see at least one Windfury proc), and shocks. And just knowing that they were criting another ~3% because of me (Grace of Air) and, with 4pts in Unleashed Rage, I'd wait for at least one crit. Then back off and throw down a heal or two. Rinse and repeat. Damn it was just cool how much I was adding to the group. Stoneskin to help keep the damage down and Mana Spring to help keep mine (and lock, mage's) mana up. Killing, Healing... felt like a Battle Cleric out of D&D! I did end up letting it slip that I was enhance... but got zero heat simply because of my performance.

I do love my Pally. And my Priest is total fun, but I have to say that I'm so glad I rolled a Shammy. What a cool class. And with all this QQ I hear from everyone about the class, I'm looking forward to the day that Bliz gets the Shaman right cause if it gets better than this, I might have to retire my other toons!!!

GL ya all.

Well, I'm glad you're enjoying it. Far be it from me to frown on someone else's fun.

Shaman don't have much if a problem in PvE, especially while leveling and through all of the regular five-man instances. With a group that knows how to use them well, they can be very powerful in raids as well. The only place they really suffer in PvE at the moment is in heroics. "Need DPS/CC," is the mating call of the heroic party because of the way that Blizzard designed them, and Shaman frequently get passed over in favor of a DPS that provide the much needed commodity unless they're Resto. (Off-spec healing, by the way, becomes largely obsolete once you reach Outland.)

If you don't PvP at all at 70, or never have and never plan to, it's very easy to enjoy a Shaman.

Enjoy being OP till around 60. Grats. Pretty much any class (regardless of spec) with a heal spell can heal until outlands.

I think anyone with a heal spell should have no problem healing any non heroic 5 man instances, it is just in outlands you need a second set of gear to get the job done properly. Whats great about outlands though is there is so much gear everywhere from quests it was safe to pick acouple nice healing pieces here and there without missing out, and with all the different reputations with all types of gear building up a healing set on the side is easy as long as your not too lazy.
