Weapon enchant question (re. 3.0.2)Follow

#1 Sep 14 2008 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
I looked, I really did.

I heard a while back that in addition to being able to use items while shapeshifted, druids would be able to receive proc benefits from weapon enchants while shapeshifted as well. I'm looking at upgrading my weapon for my dps set soon (either the 150 badge staff or, if lucky, a Pillar of Ferocity from Anetheron). I'm not too keen on using up the mats for another +35 agi enchant if I can just go for a pre-emptive Mongoose enchant and have it ready to go for the expansion.

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case, or are we still to remain proc-less on weapon enchants?

The staff looks like a tanking staff with 96 stamina and 550 armor. You should look into getting a Gladiator weapon. They have crit and hit ratings.

Pillar of Ferocity

Merciless Gladiator's Maul

You lose a little attack power and strength, a lot of stamina and the armor, but you get crit and hit rating instead. Of course, if you're hit capped and don't really need more crit (is that even possible?), Pillar of Ferocity is better. Just giving some alternatives that might be easier to get now that Merciless is bought with honor.

You're absolutely right...the S2 weapon would be the better choice for overall dps, but with 3.0.2 on the PTR and the full expansion probably not too far behind, I'm winding down on the epic grinds (pardon the pun) with my Druid and focusing on leveling my rogue so I have a toon able to push to 450 with Inscription asap.

I wish I could, I remember it too. One of the Dev's mentioning we'd get some use out of Mongoose.
I scoured the blue tracker and couldn't find it. Even google-ing it didn't come up with a solid answer. As anyone who responded yes just remembers a Dev saying it will be so, but not one has linked to a source.

Don't you hate when you know something is there and you just can't find it?

We have no plans to implement a "Dire Cat" form at this time. "Dire Bear" exists for the sole purpose of upgrading the Feral Druid's armor value to match the Warrior/Paladin etc. (Druids get no shield)

We do, however, intend to allow Druids to be able to use items and enchants with procs in forms, which I believe will work in the next beta build (don't hold me to it though).

Also, a post discussing enchants.

As squiffy as this sounds, I've gotta wonder if that might actually push us over the top in the overpowered dept?

Think about it - feral druid with a 1 attack speed going to town with Mongoose or some other obscenely deadly proc enchant AND being able to drink pots/use health stones in combat to boot???

You'd have some T6 feral solo Illidan the first day of the expansion. O_O

Most procs have a hidden internal cooldown so if I understand this correctly, it doesn't really matter how fast you attack.

Actually, I think they're based on a set PPM value, normalized for your attack speed. If the PPM for an enchant is 1, and your attack speed is 1 sec, you have a 1/60 (1.6%) chance to proc the enchant with every swing. If your attack speed is 4 sec, you have a 1/15 (6.6%) chance to proc the enchant every time you swing.

Makes sense. I think the internal cooldown thingy is more for trinkets then? I'm sure I have heard of it before :P

yes they are based on a ppm. so 1 ppm and 1 attak speed would net you 1/60 chance per min but you add in the extra hits mangle shread claw ect and it actually will proc more since your getting more than 60 swings in per that 1 min.

the only thing i know of that had or has not sure if it's been changed was the OOC come the expansion. i thought it had like a 10 sec internal timer. some trinkets just like our leader of the pack can only occur so fast but i think they normaly state on them if there is a internal cooldown for that proc.

Omen of Clarity has a higher proc % now, but it only procs on auto-attacks. I don't remember there being an internal cooldown on it, usually talents will say if there's a delay before it can proc again. I think the idea is, if more auto-attacks means more OoC procs, more OoC is more energy, more energy is more yellow damage... a reason for us to want haste? Not that we have a choice, since all melee leather is basically rogue gear.

yeah, they changed OoC to be affected by haste (in the good way). more haste = more auto attacks = more procs. there shouldnt be an internal cooldown on it either, if what i saw a few weeks on the beta forums still stands (and i havent seen anything that tells me it doesnt).

In most cases, a proc/min is based on your unhasted speed, so once you factor in haste, you end up getting more procs/min.

I recall seeing a post about all the Strength being removed from Druid gear and being replaced by Agility, but more of it.

With all these weapon enchants finally able to be used in feral forms, does that mean that firey would work as well? I haven't read anywhere that they won't... Not that I would, but it could be cool for lvl 29 twinks for BG's, I guess.

The coolest thing I think they could do with this change is to add the enchant's viual to our paws like they do for weapons. I mean... How cool would it be to see your kitty's paws have lightning around them with mongoose? Or even have them on fire? Or dripping with blood with savagery? (At least I think that's the visual for the +70AP enchant.)

It's pretty neat that weapon enchants now proc in feral forms :D

Now I was wondering..would it make more sense to keep +35 agility on a tanking weapon, or enchant it with mongoose? I play a feral druid that gets to tank things like Kara, heroics..occasionally I get into a PuG for Gruul's/Mag's...things like that. I don't DPS very often, but I have a different weapon that I use for DPSing. At the moment, I have 35 agility on both weapons, but I'm wondering if I should try to scrape together funds for re-enchanting one or the other, or both.

Wildfury Greatstaff (tanking weapon)
Staff of the Forest Lord (DPSing weapon)

Thanks for any replies! Opinions and/or math are greatly appreciated =)

This was posted on Emmerald's forums :-

The problem with mongoose is it is normalized on a Proc Per Minute basis. It will end up being not as good for a druid as for rogues, since rogue weapons are slower (2.6 on the mainhand, usually), but still hit very often with their extra strikes (sinister strike, etc). They also get double-goose, since they use two weapons. I think for the cost, +35 agi may still be a better deal than mongoose.

Bears will see mongoose proc much more often than cats - the buff will be up a LOT, since bearform attack speed is relatively slow, but they're still spamming specials every GCD. I have no idea how mongoose interacts with swipe - if each hit with swipe counts as a possible proc on 'goose, that's an insanely great enchant.

I have Mongoose x 2 on my rogues swords and I'm not the least bit impressed by the proc rate relative to the cost of materials for the enchant. One proc is decent. Two procs is very impressive. It seems I can go a long time between procs, however, and it's not fun.

I'll be sticking with +35 agility on my staff for now. I'm not going to be doing much heavy duty tanking between now and the expansion anyways, and there's no point even thinking about min-maxing for WotLK leveling dungeons.
