Level 70 DecisionsFollow

#1 Sep 13 2008 at 7:17 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,

I just hit 70 and am currntly spec'd as frost. First question: Do I stick with frost considering the looming expansion for leveling in Morthrend, or switch to Fire or Arcane for Heroics and Raids?

Second Question: Whichever way I go do I invest in Spellfire or Frozen Shadoweave, depending on the spec, again considering that the expansion is on the way?

How long will those crafted sets last in Northrend? What about the Spellstrike set and the Belt of Blasting?

I just hit 70 two nights ago and have no purples yet. In fact I have not yet quested in BEM, Netherstorm, or SMV. Are there any quest rewards there that, off the top of your head, are worth going after?

Thanks

Belt of blasting is a great piece. The other starter-epic pieces (spellstrike/spellfire/fsw) are all good pieces, but I figure you can have those replaced within the first few levels of northrend if you do the instances.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah. That is kind of what I thought. I hate to spend 6K-7K gold or more to gear up just to replace them in a few levels. Maybe I'll just go for the Belt which I think will last a little longer. Any other opinions?

Depending on how much raiding you're gonan be doing before the X-pac... if quite a bit get the Belt of Blasting, and then farm up and make the Spellstrike set. Spellfire is too easy to replace these days and completely not worth it anymore imo.

Spellfire Robe - Get the Scarlet Sin'dorei Robes from Heroic Magisters' Terrace
Spellfire Belt - Make Belt of Blasting
Spellfire Gloves - Studious Wraps are only 60 Badges of Justice and gemmed properly actually are very nice dps piece. (or the Sunwell badge gloves, but hose are 75 badges and the Studious Wraps actually give you more dmg)
- T4 gloves are also pretty nice as they give you spell hit, a very important stat for casters.

i wouldn't bother with tailoring at all. i was never impressed by the spellstrike, shadoweave, or spellfire stuff. simply not worth the cost. aside from pure spell damage, the tailoring epics really have nothing else to offer and certainly not for the king's ransom you'll drop into them.

with wotlk patching in right now, just do some quests. get a little more money, maybe a kara run or two if you can gear that far. just wait for the expansion before you worry about gear now.

there's one quest line in SMV for a nice head slot. trace this one back around to find out where it starts.

there's also a chain that yields some nice gloves:

in netherstorm, there's a group quest for the pulse taser (staff) which would likely be the best and easiest to obtain staff with some decent stats:

the quest is soloable especially for frost mages perhaps a little difficult though. won't hurt to bring friends of course. but it beats buying the bringer of death, and it should hold you over till you get an instance run or two done.

Thanks to the OP for asking these questions, because I was just thinking the same thing. I was full speed ahead for the spellfire stuff, but after checking out what was needed just for the belt, and also checking the price for the belt of blasting, I was like, whoooooaaaaa, damn. And then the release date for wolk was announced, and I thought, well, hrm, I'll just fix my frost spec up and hang out for a while and see what happens.

Thanks for the responses, too, they were very helpful. :) It kind of sucks having terrible gear during the wait, though, so, thanks, Kuresta and LaFey, for those suggestions. :)

If you haven't already done so, consider checking out how Spellfire will look(stat-wise) post 3.0.2 before you craft. It's receiving a fair nerf, going to pure Spellpower instead of Fire/Arcane damage. On the plus side, it's become better for frost mages and I'd consider definitely making that over FSW(which is also being nerfed a bit).

FSW looks better though ;)

Unless you really want to get into raiding I wouldn't worry too much about gearing up at this point. Do quests for gold and some nice rewards and then just run instances or PvP (depending on preference) for fun and loots.

I'll support the belt of blasting idea, it's not terribly bad to get the mats for and is a very powerful piece.

I decided to go with the BoB and forgo(sp?) the rest. Thanks for all the responses.
