Hey gang- I'm just joining the shammy ranks.
I started a new Drae shammy who is currently rocking level 6 mobs :)
After some reading, I decided I want to grow up and go Elemental. I know not the recommended spec, but what I want to play as :)
My question is about gearing and stats. After doing some reading, I'm thinking that I'll be looking at gear with the following:
Intellect/Stamina/Spirit - roughly in that order
Should I worry about any of the other stats?
And weapon wise, it looks like a 1H with some simialr stats and a nice shield.
Am I on the right path?

I wouldnt go overboard with the spirit, but it doesnt hurt to pick some up in moderation.
Look for items with - Spell damage, Intel, Mp5, and Stam first. Second go for spell crit, spirit... What else am I missing... I think thats all.
1 Hand (mace/dagger) with a caster shield works, a staff is always good too.
+Nature damage is excellent if you can find it.

Welcome to the shaman community :) It is fun to play a shaman for me and leveling up a shaman is also exciting where more skill and ability is available when gaining lvl.
If you are going to spec your shaman to elemental then you should look for Spell damage, spell crit,Mp5,Stam, Int, spirit. But you probably will have to take on many cloth gear as there aren't any or very less leather spell dmg gear in low level content.
I lvl up my shaman with melee spec and respec to elemental at lvl 70 where more elemental gear can be in reach. (Still very less and limited compared to other class) You can try lvl with melee style or elemental style depends on which ever is more fun to you. But from experience melee tend to kill mob faster in lower lvl content especially when u get Windfury weapon buff later on. :)
Enjoy the fun with shaman and once you gear up with elemental later at lvl 70, you will really love it as the dps is great and u can melt face as well in certain occasion when the role play is right :)
