Locks v. Warriors in upper 30 levels.Follow

#1 Sep 11 2008 at 10:09 PM Rating: Decent
As a Demo lock I'm having difficulty pvp vs. Warriors as the are immune to fear in Berserk stance... Asked a couple 'locks in the field about it and they said roll AFF. I may end up doing that but some advice as Demo would be helpful.

I think that there is not an answer... At least one that you will like.

Send in the Felguard and run. Stay out the warrior's intercept range (25 yds). Felguards pack enough wallop that they are hard to ignore. If the warrior ignores the pet, just keep running - the felguard will whittle him down while you continue on your merry way.

If the warrior stops to kill your pet, you will lose the pet and win the fight. Dish out DPS from maximum range (dot/shadowbolt range > intercept range), and be prepared to run immediately if the warrior suddenly switches back to chasing you.

If the warrior hamstrings the pet and comes after you, the felguard will fall behind. This allows it to eventually use its own intercept and stun the warrior - setting you up for a win.

If you get cornered and the warrior closes to 25 yds, it's curtains for the squishy warlock.

Also note that warriors are not always immune to fear in Berserk stance. Instead they have toggled abilities that make them immune. So occasionally you might catch them with their pants down.

Brodarus....but what if the warrior kills the pet WHILE chasing the warlock. Also, if he harmstrings you at the beggining of the battle and Deathcoil is on CD (or don't have it yet), you are kinda toast. Good warriors can beat any warlock.

Oh, and btw, warriors have 2 abilities to become immune to fear (if not undead): Berserker Rage, lasts 10 seconds, can also be used while being feared and Death Wish (I think it was 30 secs).

brodarus, you can't have the FG in the 30's.

@OP - Are you using your succubus or your voidwalker? If you're using your succubus, get the warrior in combat with a non-damage curse (probably weakness, since I forget when you get Elements) so you can seduce him. Unfortunately, Soothing Kiss doesn't get its real usefulness until its last rank, so that and Lash of Pain should be off autocast (Seduction is rather expensive mana-wise).

Warriors aren't immune to Fear in berserker stance, though; only due to Death Wish and Berserker Rage. One thing you might do is find a warrior friend and duel him to see what his buffs look like. General rule of thumb is as long as he has red hands, you probably won't be able to do much to him in the way of cc. However, once their cooldowns are up, they are as bad off as druids with a trinket down when it comes to Fear.

If you're using your voidwalker, take Torment and Suffering off of autocast; Torment is worthless in PvP, and Suffering isn't useful until its last rank. You're not high enough for Soul Link yet (level 40), so this pet probably isn't a good option in lieu of the succubus' utility.

Affliction will probably be the best bet for you, but Warlocks really don't shine until the 40s, when you have Howl of Terror and Death Coil, and can spec for Dark Pact and instant Howl. Affliction is also the easiest way to level, if you plan to continue to level your warlock.

Demo and Destro locks dont stand much of a chance, Affliction seems to offer the best chance. CoEx. DOT and run rinse repeat, lob in fear or seduce as appropriate, Deathcoil too.

Incidentally Deathcoil will work when they are fear immune. this is because the deathcoil effect is terror, not fear which can give you breathing space and lower the impact of their fear immunity. (3 seconds running away, couple of seconds running back)

Soothing Kiss, Suffering, and Torment, as well as a pet's Growl, are never casted on player characters, as they are immune to threat mechanics and those abilities. Turning them off autocast mid-fight is a waste of time.

Either stay 26+ yards away, or learn to dance at 5-8 yards. My hunter is still practicing that 5-8 yard thing, which is ironic in itself.. but it's hard to do, because you have to pay attention to what the warrior is doing and you can only cast instants.

Dunno about the level requirements but netherweave nets are very useful in pvp when someone wants a piece of you.

Actually, max rank Soothing Kiss and Suffering work on players. Soothing Kiss works for the attack speed reduction, and Suffering for the reduced chance to hit.
