Level 20, why didn't you tell me?Follow

#1 Sep 11 2008 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
So here I am BORED out of my mind with my level 70 druid....Epic flight form, T5, complete season 3 gear blah blah blah...So I start thinking to myself. "Self, don't you hate the frickin ret pallies in the arena that you can never get away from and that mash you to death?" So, not being TOTALLY off the deep end yet, I don't answer.

So my new girlfriend is a gamer, although she has never played WoW. So I figure that I should start a new toon. When I first played WoW, vanilla beta, I had this image of being a warrior of the light smiting mine enemies with my holy spells wielding a big ol 2 hander! However, I could never get into leveling one past 16. The fights took FOREVER and my options were limited. Over on the druid forums all you ever hear is "Just wait till level 20 when you get kitty, then the levels fly by." But over here on the pali forums....."cricket sounds"....

Well, a few days ago my buddy lets me take his 50 pali for a spin, he is holy specced and he complains about how slow it is to grind with him. So I do some reading up on the ol boy, respec him Ret, and then discover the sheer awsomeness that is Seal of Command. ARE YOU FRICKIN KIDDING ME? Why didn't you guys tell me?

Signed, lolretadin for life! (well till WOTLK, then I gotta get a furball to 80 :))) )

Congrats on liking Paladin!

Although, I do need to wonder a bit. You find SoC so awesome (I'm assuming for DPS)... yet you have a level 70 druid in epics. I don't understand how you can find it such a step up. Even comparing level 50s... a Ret Pally just got Crusader Strike, which is a nice DPS boost. However, he'll notice that his mana depletes even quicker. A feral druid, on the other hand, just got Mangle. He'll notice a huge increase in DPS, but no drawbacks like a Paladin has (aka, having to drink every 4-5 fights).

Granted, my Paladin is only level 62 right now (Ret), but my druid has ALWAYS been faster, except maybe pre-20. The big crits are nice, but as a druid you can score some nice ones too (Mangle crits for 1.3k reliably on my 70 druid, and I've hit above 3k crits on FBs quite a few times). I also have a 64 shaman, and let me tell you, the burst from a shaman leaves my jaw on the floor compared to my Ret Paladin.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ret Pallies, but I don't find their DPS to be amazingly amazing compared to my other high level classes. I like their burst and all their group benefits better.

Yeah, thats been my experience as a ret: you rip through 3-5 mobs, then you have to stop and drink. Gotten a little better as I've gotten up to pre-kara gearing, but ret pallys have to drink a lot.

Yeah lvl 20 is a huge jump for most classes. I wasn't too impressed with SoC though, its good but I did a dps test with Recount and seal of righteousness actually did more damage at that level. Once the damage of 2hers got better it is incredibly more useful.

And yeah, blessing of wisdom is a staple for soloing pallies. Sanctified Judgment helps a ton too when you get that far down the ret tree.

Well, my first 70 toon was a mage, so I have PLENTY of experience sitting on my bum drinking my butt off....

But to speak to the palli vs druid comment, I was making the connection of things changing at 20 for BOTH classes, not who is better at endgame....

i hate to break it to you, but once you hit lvl 60 Ret starts to lose some of its luster. at level 70 you are pretty much reduced to being a 3rd wheel. your gear doesn't scale, you have no utility, and your sustained dps is **** poor. wait that was last year...nevermind. Ret is basically all fixed in WotLK(except no interupts still!).

SPs used to melt faces circa patch 1.1 Ret pallies now pound faces.

35 seconds/1 min, and that is with talents. Not great options. compared to ES which is six seconds...

And it may be detrimental to use them as interrupts sometimes because without instant heals you depend on them to be able to pull off heals.

Kinda, you might use them to pull off a heal in 2v2 against double DPS, but you really should not be healing yourselfs in 3s, where it lends itself to CC (albeit limited CC).
