Viability of Fury (17/44) in PvPFollow

Hi,

I have a question for debate: Is the "old fashioned" 17/44 Dual-wielding Fury build still viable in PvP. For that matter, was it ever viable? I do some BG's, mostly for equipment, and 95% of all other warriors are wielding a two-hander of some kind. From previous reading(s), I know the current trend for warriors in BG's is an Arms/Fury hybrid for Mortal Strike. But the thought of giving up dual wielding makes my left eye twitch...not to mention I've already shelled out 27K honor for main hand/off hand weapons.

Bottom line.....is a dual wielding Fury-based Warrior still viable in PvP? Does it at least come close to the current Arms-based Warriors? Is it equipemnt based more than anything else? Or am I just "missing the boat"? Thanks in advance.

In order; no, and no.

With that said, it's not godawful but it is a hell of a lot weaker than Arms is. Second Wind and Mortal Strike are insanely good in BGs, not to mention Mace Spec.

Define "viable?"

If you're in a 5v5 fun team with no rating goals and your job is to eat clothies with a rogue? You're gonna do just fine.

If you're in a 3v3 team as the main melee toon with a goal of breaking 2000 rating, then you suck rocks.

If you're in BG's and you want to succeed in getting some kills and having fun, then anything is viable.

Ok, try this on for size. Given the input, I whipped together this build: www.wowhead.com/?talent=LVMIbhioMbzbZVxzuxx0c. It has flaws, I know, but it also incorporates many good ideas as well. So, for the average dual wielder, is this one better in BG's (and maybe in general) than the traditional 17/44?

MS and Dual Wield has been tried. It sucks. It's not a new idea and has been tested very thoroughly.

Ok, lets pose this query then. Is dual wielding "viable" in PvE? And by viable I mean you walk away from the raid or questing party and say to yourself "I did Ok" or "I did my part."

From what I have read, and continue to read, I get the impression that dual wielding has become obsolete once one hits lvl 70....that wielding a two hander with a Arms/Fury build outclasses any other dps design, PvE or PvP. Is that true? Have us dual wielders become the "red headed stepchild" of the Warrior world?

I really like dual wielding, but, in my opinion, WoW is a results/success driven game. The more one succeeds, the better equipment one gets, so the more one can succeed, so the even better equipment one gets, so the more one can succeed, etc... Is a dual wielding Fury build the ticket upwards, or is it necessary to conform to an two hander Arms build? I don't want to be the best Warrior in WoW, but I do want to be able to have some pride in my role in a raid or BG, successful or not.

No offense to anyone was intended if I stepped on some toes. I find myself at a crossroads and need some advice from people who have probably found themselves in a similar situation. Thanks in advance.

Yes, in PvE fury dw is very viable. While I am a tank by heart, I've done the RIP thing for some encounters where having 5 MT geared tanks isn't really necessary. I easily keep pace with rogues on boss encounters.

Fury does lose a lot of dps on trash if the MT and CC folks can't keep the main target(s) away from the breakable CC, thus eliminating WW from the rotation, but lots of classes lose dps on those types of encounters. So while I won't keep pace with the rogues there, I'll stay consistent with other classes who are losing dps due to trash duties such as mages, 'locks and hunters (not to say I top these folks, just that I maintain my dps loss relative to theirs).

The reason Arms tends to be seen over fury at 70 is a multi-faceted issue. Once someone has been at 70 for a bit there's little to do but raid and pvp. Arms is a much better build for serious pvp, and so guys who are 3 Arena teams don't want to be respec'ing or 7 times a week as they bounce between doing arena stuff, doing bg's for kicks or a weapon upgrade, and raiding with their guild. So they would rather pick one build and stick with it.

After a lot of time wasting in too many chars with too many builds and sets of gear I'd strongly suggest that you pick one char and one spec for PvP and one char with one spec for PvE. That's what I did (ok I haven't picked which one to go with for PvE).

If you pick your warrior for PvE you can go with whatever you like. In general raiders are happy with having an arms warrior with the blood frenzy talent. Fury for DPS and Prot for tanking are no brainers. Prot is a free ticket to getting into as many heroic groups as you can do.

If you pick your warrior for PvP, there's only 1 (ONE) viable warrior build for PvP and that is the 2h MS Arms/Fury build (with small variations).

This is my version of it:

Go swords if you prefer damage over stuns. I wouldn't advice Axes because everyone is packing tons of resil nowadays.
