When does maul hit?Follow

#1 Sep 09 2008 at 7:30 AM Rating: Default
Here's the scenario:

I've got a lot of rage, and I want to maul on my next attack but I'm at the beggining of the swing timer. So I punch maul. Then I decide I want to swipe. It seems that as soon as I swipe my maul is canceled? Is this correct? Or is the swipe applying the maul? Does any attack before maul goes off cancel it?

I'd have to actually be playing my druid to observe it to be sure, but if I remember correctly, the Maul would be bumped to 2nd after the Swipe. Or any melee ability for that matter. If you queue Maul then hit something else, that other ability will go off first.

Maul affects your next auto-attack. What you may be seeing is your bear is in the middle of a Swipe animation when Maul goes off, so you don't see the Maul animation and it looks like you're getting an extra hit in your swipe.

If I understand correctly I can que up maul. Swipe, swipe and then maul will go off with my next auto attack?

Yes. Swipe is an instant attack, just like Mangle and does not affect your Maul in any way shape or form. Your Maul simply goes off whenever you next auto attack hits. As Astarin said, sometimes it just happens while you are swiping or Mangling and seems like it didn't do anything, but if you check your logs or even watch your threat generation on Omen, you'll see the additional jump in threat as the Maul lands.

Note: You'll also notice your rage not jump as an auto attack would make it because Maul does not generate rage, it only spends it. That's why you wanna be over 50 rage when using maul when at all possible because you lose that auto attack worth of rage generation.

Hopefully this clarifies it completely for you.
