Affliction lock in OutlandsFollow

I should be hitting 58 on my lock tonight, and taking her through the portal. I'm nervous though. Considering the mob density in HFP, will the standard dot->fear playstyle be viable?

I can't imagine fearing mobs in HFP. Zanga or Negrand maybe, but not HFP. Seems crazy.

During those levels (58-62), I went back and forth between drain-tanking and one-at-a-time with the Felguard about every other level. Honestly, I preferred drain-tanking but it was kinda nice to drain-hunt with the big guy... less nerve-wracking, even if just a wee bit slower. One warning though: My lock had slightly better than the average gear (being my third 70). I don't know if I would advise drain-tanking at 58 in HFP to someone with old-world blues/greens.

Grats on the ding!

*edit, correction

Fear is pretty much a death sentence in hellfire. Admittedly it's been a long time since I took my lock through there, but I don't recall using fear at all in that place other than as an escape tactic. The mob density is WAY too high to even think about being fearing anything.

I'd recommend getting some outland greens off the AH before heading off to hellfire. At 58 the first few quests (before you get decent outland gear) will totally kick your *** if you're in old world greens/blues. Once you're in mostly outland gear you can drain tank just fine again..

Well this is her so far. I've been stacking +shadow damage over all other stats, and so long as I don't get overwhelmed, I actually have a fairly easy time of it.

:) No other class I've played could take down elites with quite as much aplomb.

Should I try to get a bit more +stam before heading to HFP? Luckily, I'm in a guild perfectly willing to spoil me with normal dungeon runs, so I won't have to scrape by in solo gear once I get out there.

I wouldn't worry too much about gearing up from the AH just to replace the items with in the next level. In all fairness its possible to take a lock to HFP at lvl 56 while stil wearing items like the voodoo mask from ZF and grind out lvls with little problems, it's a better money save as well. Might need the mats for your dreadsteed which arent cheap.

I'd definitely get a little more stam. The HFP mob density, as you mentioned, is rather inane and quite annoying, especially once you get to the Zeth'gor speed mountain (it's not a speed bump by any means). Remember than Outland was tuned for people at level 60, in level 60 gear. Dot dot dot ... fear's probably a bad idea, ESPECIALLY around Zeth'gor. You might be better off with your voidwalker tanking a little bit. When you're on the demon quests, though, remember that you can double and even triple cc with Banish, Enslave and Fear (and it actually works in those zones a hell of a lot better than in humanoid areas - especially if you can effectively juggle with Curse of Recklessness).

I'm going to disagree with those who say fear in HFP is dangerous, I went to Outland at lvl 57 with my Warlock and found fear to be my best friend vs mobs lvl 60+. Juggling 2,3 or even 4 mobs with dots, drains and fears is what being an Affliction Lock is all about.

As for gear I had virtually all +shadow damage gear, very little stamina and it wasn't a problem, more damage means more life from Siphon Life and Drain Life.

Good Luck in Outland :)

I also went to HFP for a little while at level 57. The grind was so easy and boring that I decided to go back to EPL to just quest out the last bit of exp I needed.

I've been playing Imp Mana-battery style my entire time in Outland. The only exception has been in Zangarmarsh when I would Dot grind- taking down up to 4-5 mobs at a time.

I was in level 45-ish green gear and a blue chestpiece from Uldaman, and I didn't buy any gear from the AH before I headed out to HFP. The first few quests were a little difficult, but I only died when I got unfortunate pats or made careless mistakes.
