Saw this build on Wowwiki and wondered what the more experience players on this forum thought.

As I see it the only real problem for a player who wants to both tank and heal is the lack of Mangle.

Hmm.. i'm not a fan of the hybrid builds.

I guess you could heal non heroic instances, but I'm sure if I were to tank (or heal) for a guy with that build, I would avoid the group! I prefer one dedicated good healer or tank than an average do everything!

And, except when soloing/farming, I don't see a reason why someone would want to tank AND heal in the same run! In pvp maybe?!

I would drop party if the tank showed up with that spec and I'm the healer. I'd tell the leader to boot the scrub druid and let me tank if I'm there to DPS. And if I'm the tank and that's the healer, he'd better be in healing epics. I've healed some heroics cookie-cutter feral spec, but that was with over 1800 bonus healing.

Thanks for the heads up. Kept me from doing something stupid.

Edit: The reason I asked was I'm not sure that tanking is the way I want to go in end-game. So for the Resto spec'd druids out there do I want to go full Resto, or in order to help with solo leveling when the expansion comes out do I want something like this:

Or maybe this:

With the big changes to healing gear in WotLK (healing gear and damage gear all uses spellpower), I would spec Balance for leveling. Nothing up to level 80 heroics is likely to require a healing-spec'd healer.

*Grins* I am though.

It's a shame I can't be ***** to level my druid (from 66) to 70, but I've done it all up to now as a resto/feral hybrid, being able to either tank and heal everything that's been thrown in my path so far.

I'm fairly sure I could heal (most) heroics... Tanking would be hard to impossible in heroics I reckon, though I'm fairly sure I can do the normal stuff up to level 70. The main problem is having different sets of gear with you, I think. At the moment I've got just a full feral set, a full resto set. If I were to optimize I'd have to add in a feral-DPS set, ánd a PvP set which combines a bit of both.

The thing is, restodruids simply don't die, and feral druids have a nasty DPS output but die easily (for as far as I've found). Combining the two might be effective. Ofcourse, I expect most hardcore druids here to scream and yell at me, but this is something I won't believe before I've seen it myself; PvP-wise, it's been fairly succesfull so far.

I had some kind of 1/35/35 spec planned for WOTLK, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get there to try it.

You need a lot of PvP gear to be crit-immune without getting Survival of the Fittest, and Mangle is a huge boost to DPS in kitty form. Past normal instances, a tank that can be crit is a dead tank. You could DPS/solo without Mangle, but since it will take you longer to kill things, you'll end up taking more damage, and needing more healing, probably costing you any benefit you gained from 20+ points in our Resto tree. Solo, I've never had a problem staying alive with Imp LotP and the occasional Bash > Regrowth > back into bear.

But what about natural perfection for tanking?

A druid without swiftmend and the bonuses from the bottom of the resto tree, not to mention the mana cost reductions from Tree of Life is not going to be able to heal anything but an overpowered group or the easiest heroics. And that's after you get to 1700-1800+ Heals.

There is a reason why the good stuff is at the bottom of the trees and skipping that over to get a little bit of both is ok I guess for leveling if that's your deal but I am of the same mind as Astarin that with Imp LotP and Bash + regrowth/LB/Rejuv and back to beating on stuff is priceless. You just don't die as a full feral spec when leveling and the same can be said for Resto in arena/BG's.

Don't expect to walk into any heroic with that build and tank and also don't expect your weak HoTs and lack of Swiftmend to be able to keep up the tank in any heroic worth running for gear/badges. Same thing for PVP. You simply need to spend the points to be good at whichever spec you happen to want.

Look at it this way you gain 2% to your healing, 15% to rejuv and nature's swiftness (then waste a point in tranq)

You lose Mangle, 10% increased crit damage, 20% more damage from Claw, Rake and Mangle, 3% improved stats and 3% less crit chance. 100% chance to have 10 rage or 40 energy when shapeshifting into bear or kitty.

What good is having a hybrid build if your damage is weak and you don't replace it with any real improvements to your healing? You're basically gimping yourself on both fronts. And in PVP when you break that snare with a shapeshift, you now have to wait to get energy back so you can start attacking again with weak claw and rake attacks.

Long story short, just don't do it. It's not worth it. Step away from the ledge....

Did I mention that Mangle is an everlasting ******? :P

If you are tanking you wont be getting crit and if you do the crits will kill you.

Feral druid is not a caster of any kind. It is a melee druid and taking that many points in resto is denying your very nature. There is only tank/DPS hybridization. If you want to DPS and heal go Dreamstate or get Intensity and do it when over geared.

Galenmoon said just about everything else that needed to be said.
