Question on BuildFollow

Hello there! I'm coming over new to WoW to play with my boyfriend. He has a Blood Elf Hunter, and I am going Blood Elf Paladin. For duo purposes, what type of builds would you recommend for me? I plan on asking the Hunter board the same for what build he should use, but if you have experience with that class as well, please feel free to chip in.

Things to consider: I am mostly concerned with what will make us the most effective duo. I would love to be useful to groups as well, but that would be a secondary focus. Also depending on the build suggested, what would be the order of my stats I should focus on? I'm reading on different build information right now, but this is a little bit more specific, so I'm hoping I can get some good information from the community. Thanks in advance!

honestly, i think the synergy of a BMHunter and Ret paly could be interesting for most of your leveling. as far as leveling a pally solo ori a group most would recommend ret. with proper gear you can tank or heal just about any pre-BC instance even as ret and you'll dps better when needed than either prot or holy. BM pets wil be able to pretty well tank any quests, even most group quests, while you and the hunter can dps and the hunter can keep his heal up on the pet and you as pally can just throw out the occassional heal if the pet gets too low. if the pet can't tank for you guys you'll prolly be fine as ret anyway. the pet tanking just means both of you can heal....

i'm sure there are other good combinations you could work out with hunter/pally, but IMO BM/Ret would be the fastest combo to level.

If you're going to group with a hunter, I'd suggest going Ret. Hunters rarely need heals, and they already heal their pet, so Holy would be boring. Hunter's have their own tank, and they can't heal you or AoE well, so Prot wouldn't be good either.

And there'll never be any gear competition between you. Hunters have no use for strength, which is a Ret paladin's main stat.

actually, the stats a hunter is looking for are relatively good for a Ret pally too. Hunters need AP and Agil. Rets prefer Str and Crit and if it has AGI/AP i'd et the hunter roll first, but i often was wearing rogue and hunter gear, especially while leveling.

otherwise i agree with Ehcks

I agree with the above posters: BM Hunter and Ret Paladin is your best bet to go with that class duo. Both are great solo levelers so you should progress pretty rapidly with little or no difficulty, even with "red quests" (much higher level than you) and elite mobs of higher level. As BM the Hunter's pet can make for a very decent tank and the Hunter, as stated, can heal their own pet. As for the Paly: again, Ret spec can heal or tank just about anything pre-BC. I'd recommend keeping a Holy and/or Prot set in your bags for those occasions, though even if you can't make a full gear swap you should be fine.

I've actually been leveling my Druid with my gf's Warlock in a similar fashion as a Hunter/Paladin would level (68 now, 2 to go!): let the VW tank while I DPS and she heals the pet as necessary while DPSing too, then I'll heal if she can't keep the pet up or switch to bear and take over tanking if the pet dies. We've been able to complete a lot of group quests, even higher level ones, and kill higher level elites just the 2 of us quite effectively. I'm positive the same can be done with a Hunter/Paladin combo.

Thanks for all of the responses! He is kind of class ADD and I think he decided to play a Warlock instead, so I'm glad that the last post mentioned that. Either with hunter or warlock then, it would be more efficient to let the PET tank (as long as he specs in a way to allow for that) and then have me go Ret to help dps, while still being able to tank and heal if needed. If I misunderstood please feel free to correct me. I'm quite blonde sometimes!

Made me lol, cause I say that a lot myself >.>

Anyway, you're welcome for the opinions :) If you're curious, now that it'll be a Warlock and not Hunter you level with, look into the Demonology tree. Might be obvious, but worth stating that it's the tree that enhances your demon pets in a similar way to how Beast Mastery enhances Hunter pets. It'll be your best bet imo.

I leveled my Lock Demonology, and I had a lot of fun. Some of the talents I took leveling are really more for that, to ease leveling, and I don't use them in my build anymore, so be prepared to change spec once you get to a higher level to remove some of the things you no longer need. I guess this can be said of most any class/spec combo, but meh ;)

Enjoy! And feel free to pop in again if you have other questions needing answered.

We got up to 15 last night, and are having tons of fun with the paladin / warlock combo. For now I'm tanking and he is just blasting things, but as the baddies get stronger, I'm sure we will switch over to let his pet tank. Thanks again for all the help!

glad you're having fun. you'll have to let us know how things go as yout higher levels. i'm writing this on my phone (again...lol) so this'l be brief, but just wanted to answer the one question you asked in your OP that doesn't seem to have been answered. i honestly can't remember if i included good info on how to spec as you level up in the ret guide, but here's some key talents you'll want t pick up as you level....

Tier1 - 5/5 Benediction - anything that reduces mana cost lets you fight longer without needing to drink is greatly beneficial (on that note i'd use Blessing of Wisdom when you get it even though Blessing of Might is typically more inline with the stats Ret pallies use. BoW will help you to almost never need to stop and drink.

Tier2 - 2/2 Improved Judgement
- 3/3 Improved Seal of the Crusader

Tier3 - 1/1 Seal of Command - at this point get the slowest hardest hitting 2H weapon you can
- 5/5 Conviction
- 3/3 Pursuit of Justice - not the best PVE end game ret talent but great for leveling...

by this time you'll be level 28. i can't remember the rest of the talent tree off the top of my head (i'm a sad sad geekadin today). if you want further talenting advice feel free to come back when you get close to that and ask.
