Cat VS Rogue in PVPFollow

#1 Sep 04 2008 at 4:48 PM Rating: Decent
I cant choose between rogue or druid...

I've begin to lvl a rogue to focus mainly on PVP when i reach lvl70. But I have a druid on another server and I love it (a resto/balance druid).

Do you think cat form can be compare to a rogue in PVP? I know cat cant have the burst damage or escape mechanics of the rogue, but do you think a druid in cat form can do a great job in PVP like the rogue? What is your opinion on this?

Thx for the answer

I leveled my Druid mostly in Cat form, and I always had problems with rogues in BG's. I've never rolled a rogue so I can't say for sure but in my opinion the rogue has more options during combat than a Cat.

They both have their ups and downs in various aspects. From the sound of it, i'm thinking that you're trying to make more use of an already made, higher level character (the druid) to experience a rogue type of style via cat form. It's obvious that they are not exactly the same and is natural to think they can be similar because they share similar mechanics. Unfortunately, the similarities hardly extend beyond that; the play style in end-game pvp between a feral/kitty druid and a rogue differ greatly (especially in arena).

Note: Take this with a grain of salt as I haven't managed high end ratings as a feral spec and haven't done much with rogue pvp.

If you want to PvP, then don't go with the feral druid. Rogue is much, much, mcuh better for PvP. If you are amazing and can get 1700 with a feral druid, then you could probably have 1900 on the rogue.

Having said that, it is possibly only 2-3 months till the expansion comes out and nobody has any idea what PvP will be like then, so really, i'd suggest just playing whichever one you enjoy playing more and wait to see what pans out.

Feral isn't great in arena, as it is right now. The expansion gives us some neat buffs for pvp that might make us better, but I wouldn't count on us getting better than rogues.

On a side note, did anyone else see the title of the thread and think, "Just switch to bear, you can auto-attack the stupid rogue to death if you feel like it...." Mangle speeds it up, though...

I have both a level 70 rogue and feral druid. From a pure pvp perspective, the rogue is so much easier. The class is very forgiving - multiple ways to control the engagement, multiple abilities to "reset" the battle or escape and drop combat. If winning = fun, I would definitely recommend going with a rogue for arenas. Going by your title of "Exclusively Cat vs. Rogue", I would say rogue hands down...no contest. I find myself a free kill for any warrior, rogue, and bear druid if I stay in cat form.

With that said, I actually enjoy my feral druid more in BG's since the battle is chaotic and somewhat unorganized. The ability to track humanoids is very nice and I can move from node to node fairly quick (especially if you have the set bonus from PVP gear). I may get flamed for this (as my rogue is not very well-geared), but it just seems like the initial burst from a pounce/mangle/shred/shred combo is higher that what I can achieve with the rogue. Of course if the enemy does not die or still has quite a bit of life after the initial burst, the difficulty level is greatly amplified.

You must be forgetting you are on the druid forums! This rarely happens here and is usually well deserved. :)

Lol, I could only imagine the havok Theo would cause on this thread if he was set loose.

But, yes as they've said. Feral in pvp isn't as good as a rogue. Mind you it is entirely possible to lock someone down longer than a rogue can, but part of that lock down you aren't doing damage.

If you want to pvp as a druid your best bet lies in not being so much of a killer, but a healing pain in the ***. The 8/11/42 spec (and its variations), and also the restokin (or dreamstate as its also called) are two very amazing combos in pvp. The second build is more of an arena build though while the 8/11/42 can be used to it's full extent in both arena and bgs.

I'm a Rogue and I have a lvl 12 druid. I'm not trying to flame or anything because I do not know exactly how much burst DPS you are putting out, but from my perspective I have not met a feral druid on my server that can put out the burst DPS that a rogue can. And I may be completely up the creek about this, but thats just MY perspective

Conventional wisdom is that between an equally-geared Rogue and Feral Druid, the Feral Druid should be able to win handily by staying in bear form except to bash and heal; root, run and heal; or cyclone, run, stealth and eat/drink. The danger is the Rogue's burst, and it's really hard to burst a bear.

You're thinking about it the wrong way. It's not cat vs rogue. It's cat/bear/caster vs rogue.

A cat druid can't do anything as well as a rogue. No question. My rogue is lvl 10 and he can already stun more often than my feral in cat form.

But a druid -- especially feral -- is about using different forms for different situations. So the difference is a druid can survive being focus-fired better than even a rogue because of bear. A druid has comparable control because of cyclone, feral charge, roots and bash on top of the cat's openers and finishers (though a cat has nowhere near the control of a rogue). What a feral lacks, and what makes us fail in arena, is burst. But it looks like the xpac may change that, so if you really like druid, maybe you want to give it a shot. As it stands, don't expect a feral to equal a rogue, which is the best PvP class. But it's still fun.

The OP asked not whether a feral druid beats a rogue (or vice-versa) but which is better in PvP overall. A rogue will beat a lot more classes/specs than a feral druid and overall is a much better PvP class (at least till the expansion).

Having said that, me beating a rogue is usually dependant on whether they get the jump on me. If they catch me in cat or caster, then I am usually down to about 30% health by the time I can finally switch into bear (assuming the rogue is similarly geared). If he doesn't get the jump on me (or I am in bear) then most of the time I can win.

i'm not geared good for cat so i know my burst dps aint that good but seems like rogues = geared dish it out alot faster. i'm still learning pvp with feral i was doing it boomkin but found i got focusfired alot. now i let my pally buddy get focus fired some as i try to take out a clothie or leather wearer. i cant burst plate down at all. tryed a holy pally and it was a waste of time finaly i went after his hunter friend and made him waste mana healing the hunter.
#15 Sep 09 2008 at 11:09 PM Rating: Good
In 2v2 matches I did with a holy pally, the games would drag out as my damage couldn't keep up with their mana regen and we had no mana drain. I had some ridiculous games that went on for 15 mins with me just chasing them around the room. We lack the burst DPS against non-clothies to easily kill anyone without excellent co-ordination of interrupts/cc.

In a word no kitty not going match rogue in pvp.I have both 70 rogue & druid. I love my druid but when it comes to BG my rogue is a killer. Rogue are just better suit for pvp play in BG. Rogue have a lot more option when they come out slealth then a kitty does. IMO those mechanics you speak of is reason why rogue better at PVP then kitty. I see you are resto/balance. I think good combo do the BG with I have see other druid do good with that type of build. You'll be able get some kills & heal.

that doesnt mean they are better suited for pvp play in bg's. they are a pure dps class even if your feral you can still toss a heal or two on peeps and hit peeps at range with a spell to finish them off if your at a distance. it's like compareing the diff tanks each has a diff trick up they're sleave and they all play diff. personaly i love bg's as kitty i tend to find the bad rogues and ripe them up. i dont know if i'm just ok or if they just totaly suck cause i know my gear aint that good to take out even s2 rogues. and if i do find a good one i normaly go bear and let them beat on me while drageing them to someone if i cant kill them for some help. one class i do hate is faceing locks. pain in the **** half the time.

The point of druids isn't to be rogues or to match what rogues can do, its to do burst damage, interupt healers, cc others, continue DPS. My rogue is now rated 1746 on his 2v2 and i have never ever come across a druid who stays in one form the whole fight, no matter what spec. Bear form is a pain to kill but i am getting good at it, and no i won't let you know your weakness.......thats because you have none.....nerf please :) With all seriousness a druids only weakness is the person playing them. If you want to "OMG PWN" stuff so to speak then imo roll a rogue. If you want to be able to kill any class then stick with a druid.
