quick question CapJack.. do you mind if copy your FAQ and just update sections with the wrath info? it would save on time and make the formatting of the FAQ much simpler for me. also a few of the general info sections really don't need to change.

Yeah that's fine, hell I did that with the FAQ before mine, there are some sections in there that I didn't write either, so you may still want to keep a credit for Cathela in there.

I'm more of a casual player and built my pally off our current FAQ!! It is one of my greatest tools in making my pally and really kept me sticking to my pally (still my favorite toons!!) I'd be happy to add what info I can gather and put together with what little time I do have. 'Fraid most of it will be prot info though... I have never played any other spec till... when I log on again (going ret till 3.0.2 comes out and I get the free respec back to prot... first time playing anything but prot with this toon)

I really like the format of our FAQ and agree that it is the best on these forums!!! Guess it's time to give back :-)

ty for the help sim. and even if its only prot info that'd still be very helpful. i've done a lot of tanking but thats still the spec i've played least. i've healed and dps'd as far as TK, but only tanked as far as gruuls/ZA. so any help on the tanking side would be great :)

also i should be putting a preliminary FAQ up this coming weekend or at latest the following weekend. my hope is to have a tentative one up prior to the patch so i can get some input on it. if anyone has anything they want to add, feel free to msg me. again ty in adcance for any help :)

Well, I've logged about 20+hrs tanking in 3.0 Have to say...even in the gear that I have, it so rocks.
I love the change to Blessing of Sanctuary. The mana return is just hot. I was a bit worried when they took away our Blessing of Salvation (ok, it's not gone, but really...10 sec? I have used it once in 20hrs of play) as it was a major tool in keeping threat. Ahhh, but the changes in how spellpower is added is HOT!!! Holy Shield is the best. Went from doing 128ish to over 300 pts/hit!! Conceration get some more, but not as much of an improvement. Still, if you stick to the way you have been playing Conceration (spam it once, maybe twice to get threat and your good) it's nice to have the added damage. Hammer of Righteous rocks. I spam it all the time. Reminds me of Crusader Strike for Ret (except that it hits up to 3 targets). I've been trying to get the Glyph of Avengers Shield, so that it hits a single target for 100% more damage instead of 3 targets, but they are charging something like 500g and well, I just don't have the time to farm it between actual test play and my guild. Touched by the Light is nice. My stam is 812 giving me +81 spell damage. Nice, yes. And with the added Holy Damage added into your spells it adds up. I would probally go with +200sd anyway, just factor in your TBtL bonus (+40 spellpower chant and TBtL +81= +121 leaving a meer 79pts to find) Could actually find a +stam/str wep and get your +sd somewhere else (as str does add to your block and it's ALL about the block).
The new judgement system is cool. Seal up for 2 min. It does have a 4sec internal cd, but hey, it procs for more that the Blessings did, and sticks around longer. You can judge 3 different kinds, Wiz (+mana), Light(+health), Just(stops them from fleeing). Everytime you judge it will do x Holy damage (depending on the Seal you have up) and land the Judge you picked. The Judge sticks around for 30 sec and then goes by-by. No, it does not refresh with your hits. Now this is good and bad. Good because even without Improv Judge your cd is 10 sec (plenty of time to wait for your first to expire) and second, when you do pop it down again you do x more damage! Bad, well one more timer to worry about (yeah, I'm kinda lazy :-)
So combat goes something like, Pull (my pick is Avengers Shield), Seal of Light, Judge Wiz, Holy Shield,(Concerate if you have more than 3 mobs) and Hammer of Righteous every cd. I keep up my Judge Wiz, Holy Shield and again HoRight every cd. Hammer of Wrath for a finish if you need. The first thing I noticed is how fast my mana came back! Yes, well Blessing of Sanctuary returns 2% of your max mana every block, Holy Shield Delivers more Damage (bigger + from your spellpower) and if they do get through, you've judged them. If you though you could watch tv and mad grind before, get the popcorn out! Down time is so low. We have also become much more viable as a MT. With all said before, and adding your Glyph of Avengers Shield you can get some great threat up front, and with HoRight keep it going. Get your Imp Judge and every 8 sec be hitting him with even more Holy Damage as you pick your return for the moment (what you need? Life? Mana?).

Basically, If you loved being a prot pally before, your going to make love to it now (imo)!!

I'm sure there are other things I've either forgot to say/stress like how Str imp your block (which is imo now the most imp thing you can have... ohhhh, checkout the BrewBoss Trinket and TBtL is a great tool for Spellpower, (so gear by desire is Block (rating), Stam, Str). But then... I really am just a casual player.

I'll keep you posted...

Wouldn't that be with only one rank in the talent? all 3 ranks should give you 30% of your stamina = 243 spell damage.

Eh... yeah. LOL. Thank you!

So I guess all in all, you really could ditch all of your spell damage gear for blockrating/stam/str. I'm going to go shopping on the PTR.

And I don't remember where I read it, and I'm still trying to find it, but does Str improve your Block or Block Rating? And does x block improve your block rating? Also, where do you get your #'s from? I was thinking that I clean out my Talents, and take off my gear... then buy simple gear with like +5 str and then note the differences (or start stacking + Str till I see a difference). I guess I need to ask too, when adding armor does that effect anything else (in the background) besides the ammount of damage that you take?

Eh... I'm new to this, but trying to help as much as I can... Maybe I'll just post the changes, and the piece of gear that made those changes and you can do the math...

Ahh... If anyone has the know-how, I'm happy to do the work.
Thanks.

Don't call either stat block, you'll just confuse yourself (I know it confused me.)

Block RATING increases your chance to block an attack. X amount of block rating = 1% chance higher to block.

Block VALUE increases the amount of damage blocked on each attack. Strength increases the amount of block value by a very small amount currently (I think its like 30 str per value or something like that), although this is being increased in the expansion. The only other way to get block value is on your gear.

Ack!
Yeah, it was actually a post from you (a few months back) that I learned that one. Hehe...though I see my mistake in my long ramble (blame it on the rum of course!) I should edit that. And if your Block Value doesn't help your Block Rating then that trinket has lost it's splender...

Does this help? "... does Str improve your Block Value or Block Rating? (you answered that, Block Value.) And does x block value improve your block rating?"

I'm now in love with Block Rating. After seeing the mad mana return with Blessing of Sanctuary and the damage hike in HS, I'm looking to just max it out like crazy. I'll be taking a shot with a smile everytime I pay 6g to fix my shield!!! I'll soon be starting my gear search for it all (block rating)...
Is there another stat that I can pump into that will improve my Block Rating?
And when you guys did your first FAQ how did you get your #'s?

Oh my, I just read Shield of Righteousness. I've been playing PTR 3.0, not WotLK... have to say, love this new spell (my mind is swimming... maybe the rum? maybe the new ideas?)

Nothing except block rating improves your block rating. Block value and block rating are two completely different stats. It's like asking if your STR increases your STA.
