Now I'm getting annoyedFollow

Alright. So here's me, a rogue with

-5/5 Master of Deception
-2/2 Heightened Senses
-Deathblow X11 Goggles ("Slightly increases your stealth detection")
-Nightscape boots ("Increases your effective stealth level by 1")

And a mashable stealth button which does nothing to my stealth, but helps finding other rogues.

Then there's this rogue who, like me, has 5/5 MoD and 2/2 HS, but no stealth/detection increasing items.

Can somebody explain to me how that rogue manages to get the jump on me in EVERY duel? And when I say 'getting the jump' I mean bigtime. I'm running around spamming my mashable stealth button as usual, and out of nowhere I get cheap shotted. I mean, what the heck? Three effing times in a row. He didn't even become visible. Being jumped by Human rogues is annoying enough, but... what's this guy doing? He couldn't be using vanish, since even with prep, he wouldn't have 3 charges of it within 10 minutes. I honestly don't understand how's able to catch me that easily?

He mentioned something about using stealth the "pre-tbc" way and said something about "being able to hear when they're close to you". Aye, I know you hear the stealth woosh when a stealthed target near you, but that's not it. Have I been living under a rock or such? I'm honestly completely clueless as to why this specific rogue manages to always jump me. Is he just being incredibly lucky or what? Any ideas?

Or, he can just be spamming the tab/sap/cheap shot button like(I thought) all rogues do when they duel or know when another rogue is around. Just my thoughts though. I don't know what you mean by "mashable stealth button," but if that is not it then that my be why you fail.

Do you have terrible latency? And are you not looking every direction as you move? He could just be sneaking up on you from a side, after all.

Edit: Aren't Nightscape Boots like a level 35 item?

There is a macro/hack out....

When spammed it will show all stealth targets, even from across the arena floor.

I don't know specifics but it works off some type of targeting system I beleive.

The guy is probably using that.

There's Nightscape Boots which are low level, and The Masters Treads which are high level. They both increase stealth level.

Not sure which he meant.

Just to clarify some things (since I don't think I was fully awake when I typed this):

-I don't have a mashable stealth button, I meant to say a mashable sap button.
-Yup, the nightscape boots are really low level. I'm using them for the sole purpose of enhancing stealth... My normal blue boots aren't that magnificent, so when I know I'll be fighting a rogue/druid and it's possible I generally switch to these boots before going in.
-While I've thought about it, I really don't think it's me (or the way I move in stealth). I generally make circles or either way change direction a lot, occassionaly jumping. It looks pretty much the same as your avarage PvP movie rogue.
-It's not my latency. I had somewhere between 60 and 100 (which is normal) trough all 3 duels.

It isn't the case that we see eachother and he simply gets a sap off first, I just get cheap shotted without even seeing him before he leaves stealth. And that's with me having a better stealth and better stealth vision than him.

That sounds somewhat interesting... I think I'll see if I can find the chap again one of these days and throw him another 3 duals. If he keeps having the jump, I'll throw a report. After all, if he's not using hacks he's got nothing to fear.

I wouldn't bother. It's like one effective stealth level.

I'm just really, really hoping you don't wear them into Arena.

^ /agree, bigtime. i would love to duel you in nightscape boots. if that's what you are wearing in arena...you know what? We've had the gear discussion before. I cannot win that one with you apparently, so I'm not getting into this one.

It seems more likely to me he's just out manouvering Mozared in stealth.

And 3 times in a row he wouldn't become visible at all until after his opener? What do you think, that I'm standing still all the time? C'mon, he's even picked remorseless over ruthlesness in a pvp spec.

That's possible, but if everything the OP says is true, and he has 1 stealth level above this guy, you should still be able to see. With people of even stealth levels, you can see them up to 8yds away.

And this hack has been around a long time, and A LOT of people have been using it. Just read the Rogue forums theres people screaming about it a lot.

Alright... he's going in for a report. Just duelled him again and in one duel the same thing happened twice. First I got cheap shotted from out of nowhere and then I got sapped from out of nowhere. I refuse to believe this is mere coincidence... Also, I'm sure I was facing the direction he came from the second time it happened.

I suppose I'll keep you updated...

Edit: Alright, I've found one way that helps on opening up on him... By spinning around like crazy while walking and mashing my sap-macro I've managed to get the opener once, and another time we both sapped eachother at the same time. That's out of about 10 tries this evening now.

Alright, last bump which will probably be the end of this thread.

I've reported him, the GM said they "will look into it" but they refuse to even let me know if he was using exploits or not. If I never see him online again I'll edit it in, but I suppose that's as much as I can do.

What?!?!?!? What I said about spamming sap/tab actually worked? Get out of town.

Like I correct earlier, I've got a macro with build in targeting, allowing me to just spam the macro as it will automaticaly select anybody in sap range and sap when possible.

Before you start yelling; When I say spinning around like crazy I mean spinning around like crazy, as in sliding my mouse sensitivity to completly open, holding the right mouse button, the up and right arrows, and then moving the mouse from left to right as fast as I can while mashing delete (my sap hotkey). Go and try it to see what I'm talking about, there is no way this can be done without a sap macro, and I've never ever seen a rogue use a technique like that. In fact, my pall who was watching the duel whispered me with the message that I was having very bad lag.

And let me remind you that doing that only worked one and a half time out of 10 tries.

On the bright side, I think this is a pretty foolproof way to ensure you get the opener as long as you're not fighting Human rogues.

ROFL ... sorry, I know you said you wanted this thread to end, but I've just realised (after an equivalent episode in EotS last night), that this is one of the main reasons I cannot compare my rogue to my fury warrior. At the base of it, while levelling, you could play pretty much the same way on both - just cut your target to pieces as fast as possible.

Only diffs - my warrior refuses to use anything but an axe (he's picky like that, and he has fangs, so I don't argue), and my rogue uses swords (a slightly more refined character)

But, when the chips are down, and there's a bit of rogue on rogue action - there's absolutely nothing like it to get your heart pounding in your chest ;-)

There were 2 of us (rogues, stealthed at the FR, defending) ... when I was CS'd out of nowhere by an NE rogue and summarily dispatched. The other rogued suffered the same fate.

After Ressing, we both went back, and then the cat and mouse started ... I was surprised another 2 times, but the other rogue was wise to it, and we were able to force the NE B*tch to vanish. That's when I remembered you guys talking about target/sap spamming .. and things changed, we got the jump on her on several occasions after that (not saying the compliment wasn't repaid though ;->).

She was in a mix of S3 / S4 gear (maybe some S2, not 100% sure), out-geared me by a huge margin, and the other rogue by a bit. Lemme tell you - it was an immense amount of fun ... we killed her twice (yeah, maybe she sucked, geared like that and still dieing), I died about 4 times in total, but the thrill of the "hunt" (if you will) really got my adrenaline going ... it was truly a style of play that is unsurpassed by anything else in the game. Sure, being the rogue attacking a unsuspecting clothy is fun, but 2 rogues trying to get the best of each other is the ultimate. !!

Anyway, just thought I'd share ;-)

Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy a good read *Grins* Now that I've been going into it in detail I know what to do in a situation like that... do the crazy *** mouse turning thing and spam sap. As long as the other rogue doesn't have better stealth than me it seems pretty much infallible... Since that duel I've tried it 3 times and everytime the enemy rogue got sapped just as I heard the "woosh" sound.

And as for that, don't worry; I didn't say I *wanted* the thread to end, I said I *thought* it would be ending as there was little more that could be said about the subject.

I reported the rogue 2 days ago and he's still playing, so I'm going to assume he wasn't using hacks of some sort. I'll see if I can wrestle his technique out of him - aside from that, I'm glad he's the only rogue I know using it.
