Well I got my first piece of socketed gear, http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=24395. Now I'm wondering what gems to put in it. Obviously this is part of my healing gear. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it is just for your healing gear, then the socket bonus is useless to you so I would just go with the pure healing gem. At that level I wouldn't waste the gold on rare/epic gems so just go with the [wowitem=23094]Teardrop Blood Garnet[/wowitem]. You should be able to get them fairly cheap of the AH, or just buy the blood garnet and get someone to cut it for you.

You can choose to look for gems by Socket Type, and Quality. It will list what is available by Caster (Balanced), Healing (Resto) and Melee/Defense (Feral).
There is also http://www.wow-gem.com/gems.aspx, which allows to you to apply filters to your search.

Thanks for the advise. The website for searching Gems is going to be very helpful. This Forum is great, I've received a lot of helpful information from the posts.
