Feral questing with a boomkinFollow

#1 Aug 31 2008 at 5:47 AM Rating: Decent
Generally the boomkin has been doing almost twice as much damage as my feral druid. Is this normal? It becomes a problem when we try to take down an elite because the boomkin pulls aggro off of me. We're both 65. What's the best way to keep aggro while in bear form?

Cat form does more damage than bear form.

If you're staying in bear all the time, what you're doing is comparable to a prot warrior and a mage. Switch to cat, and it's more like rogue + mage.

If you are in bear, yes. You are a meat shield, your moonkin is your balanced sword. Your purpose to to take hate and absorb damage so s/he can do as much damage as possible without stealing the mobs attention.

Is your crit chicken, giving a moment at the start of the fight to "breath"? Druids bears are a little slower then other tanking classes when grabbing that initial hate. If s/he is super nuking right off the bat, then your playing catch up on threat.
If necessary here's Omen, it's a Threat Metere Add-on. You both can download it and it will show your moon toasting fowl where the line is.

If your both close in level to the mobs your fighting and not fighting elites, you will have better luck fighting in cat form. If your both focused on the same mob, it's really just not going to last longer then a heartbeat. Besides your both druids you can heal the minor cuts and scratches you will get. If things get hairy you can always shift to bear as can your antlered owl!

Make sure your using Growl properly, you want to start off the fight with it. (Well at least I do out of some odd unbreakable habit; RareBeast makes an excellent point about it in the post below) Once the mob is on you, it's does nothing for you. When your Elune kissed feather head takes hate, hit growl and it will place you right back on the top of things. If s/he is ranged as most are; you may need to take a few steps back and hit feral charge to get close and personal again before doing so, to quickly take back control.

Life gets easier after you get Lacerate, which your only a level away; but you still have some great tools available to you.

I leveled through Outlands with my fire speced pocket mage of a husband, and I had to beat him some too. But they learn, eventually they all learn. >:3

I would definitely avoid starting the fight with growl. You can just as easily pull the mob and hit it once or twice before your friend starts casting. If you blow growl at the start and the caster crits and pulls agro straight away, you have to wait 10sec before you can growl again.

Other than that the info was pretty good - especially read those guides for more indepth info.
