Aspect of the viper (which will be trainable at level 20 I believe) will no longer grant MP/5 based on a percentage of your mana, but will reduce your damage done by 50% and cause you to regenerate mana equal to 100% of your damage caused (via an 11-point BM talent, you can decrease the damage penalty by 10%). Under this system, for about every 0.4 DPS you do, you will get 1 mp/5 (so for 2000 DPS, which shouldn't be too hard to achieve in LK, you could restore a 10k mana pool in 10 seconds, at the cost of 10k damage or 1k DPS).
I like this, since it will actually scale with our gear (intellect would stay about the same as hunters get geared, but the other stats go up faster) and it allows us a huge burst of mana back (at a cost) before we switch back to hawk/beast (beast if your pet is tanking).

I can live with that. If I can't chug mana pots anymore, I can deal with losing a bit of DPS to restore my mana. With the changes to the SV tree, I doubt I will ever spec away from BM, anyway.

AotV has been compared to Evocation, only instead of loosing 100% DPS you only lose 50%. Some people like to leave it on all the time (and they're complaining, they think their DPS is nerfed 50%) but this actually allows you to keep up hawk until you absolutely need to use viper.

So far on the beta it's rather easy to go through your mana pool. I find myself constantly switching to Viper to get my mana back then switching back to Hawk. Even with Hunting Party, Thrill of the Hunt, and Illidan's Bow, I still go through mana rather quickly. They'll definitely have to change the glyph for Viper though. There was a glyph that inscribers could make that would give your aspect of the viper the mana regen effect as if you had 30% less mana. Maybe now they'll just change it to decrease less damage, kind of like the BM talent.

Although so far it isn't bad, and it actually keeps me from pulling aggro to much from my pet when I need to get mana back.

Why would you cast misdirection first? The damage is halved, and you'd half the effect of MD.

Waste of a 2-minute cooldown. Wait for before or after Viper to use MD.

PvE wise, I'm kinda wondering how this'll factor in. As is (in BC), if a Hunter has a proper pot rotation, they should never OOM. However, in Wrath they're changing pots.

Since I'm not in the beta, I can't tell for sure how vital our mana consumption will be. As it stands right now, I see a PvP BUFF (Yes, buff) in this change. 50% damage might seem kinda bad at first. BUT, Hunters (in 2s, anyways) rely on long, mana draining games. If we regenerate 100% of our damage, we'll pretty much NEVER OOM in an arena. This allows us to go longer than our opponent, especially since we're draining them.

A marksman hunter who properly times viper sting and chimera shot COULD keep up viper sting 100% of the time.
Time = 0 Viper Sting
Time = 7 Chimera Shot
Time = 15 Viper Sting Again
Time = 22 Chimera Shot

By playing the cooldowns, you get a huge bonus.
