Creating a better priest...Follow

#1 Aug 29 2008 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
Hello all, this is my first post.

I just started playing WoW again after close to a year absence, and I would love to make my priest better. I switched to Holy/Disc as I was kind of bored with Shadow, and I mostly just PvE and do instances for now. I figured I would link my character sheet on here so I could possibly get some advice. I would like to get my crit% up to some where in the 20% range and get more mana. My gear sucks pretty bad at the moment, but I just got a decent amount of gold from some AH sells and what not, so I have a few hundred G to spend on gear/enchants/whatever. Any help is certainly appreciated!

Thanks very much,
Will

holy/disc priests do not need crit as a primary stat, it doesn't provide much benefit past around 15% at the high end. Concentrate more on building up gear with high amounts of +heal and spirit to get yourself going again. If you're at 70 and have the gold to do it you can do a lot worse than invest in the crafted tailoring gear.

Jeez, I could have sworn I linked it in my first post, I guess my brain just failed me then. Regardless, here's a link to my armory; http://www.wowarmory.com/character-...n=Skwisgard and you can see I have some pretty poor gear! I usually have my old Furen's Boots(http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=13100) on and a different head piece which name I can't remember. It's +16spirt +15 Int though. I was going to use the staff from the Plaguelands quest I believe, but other than that I'm not really sure what I should get in order to sort my gear out. I know my +healing is weak, so I should work on that. But I always have a hard time figuring out what to give up to get that, and end up just sticking by the standard +spirit/int stuff.

Thanks again for the help!

Link not working for me. But, my opinion:

+Healing and spirit are king. I don't know what level you are, but if it's below the level where you start getting decent +healing gear (I don't recommend straight "of healing" stuff), then spirit is your primary stat. Sacrifice just about anything else, within reason. For example, my priest has been lacking in stamina to the point where I get one or two shotted if some of the stuff in Kara hits me, so I went ahead and sacrificed a little healing or spirit if it was for a gain of a lot of stamina.

The way I tier it:
Healing
Spirit
Stamina
Intellect (obviously you need a mana pool, but you'll rarely find a piece of healing gear that hasn't got int on it, so I don't really think about it)

I don't place much value in MP5. Spirit is nicer for us.

Anything else (spell hit, crit, etc.) is fine if it's on a piece with other stuff, but I don't seek it specifically.

People who've progressed further than I may have different views.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Sentinels&n=Skwisgard see if that one works, hopefully so!

I'm only lvl 55, and I wouldn't be specced as high in Holy as I am except I seem to get with the worst possible groups. Usually I end up spending most my time healing DPS, then getting aggro and having to run to the tank who is often times alright, just only gets 1.5 seconds to get an threat before everyone goes insane DPS mode on everyone the tank isn't actually attacking. I'm hoping to hook up with some people to form a more cohesive group, but I don't see it happening soon, especially since I am only lvl 55.

That link worked. I have no complaints about your armory. No "of the bear" gear or anything. :) If you decide to stay Holy you'll want to pick up Inspiration at some point. As for leveling Holy, if you're happy we're happy. :)

I agree that healing PUGs can be hard. Personally I hated being a guildless healer. If I were you, I'd definitely try to find a guild as you move into the Outland so you can start doing those runs with guildies where possible. Even endgame guilds have alts at various level ranges.

I would tell you to read the stickies, but we don't really seem to have a good sticky on priest healing.

Read trough that topic, it should give you some information about basic healing, what to do with overaggroing DPS and stupid tanks.

Also, your spec isn't dreadful but could be improved. On the other hand, I wouldn't bother just yet since you're still leveling. On a sidenote to that; don't worry about your gear at all. Most of your stuff is level 50 with you being 55; that's quite avarage. And once you reach 58 you'll be able to head to the Outlands and gather up insane quest greenies there.

Hmm, perhaps it's time somebody wrote a universal topic about priest playstyles, healing, etc.....
