Hi all, just thought I'd get a feel for what you guys think.

I've just crafted Bloodmoon (in preparation for Dual Wielding with my Despair in the bank), and thought I'd try out an Arms spec while I toss around waiting for the patch.

Firstly, this is purely solo / dailies / farming, so any grouping considerations are irrelevant.

I first tried a slight variation on your typical 33/25/3 PvP spec, but I find that with the 3.7 speed of the 2 hander, I wait around too much (I used to be 17/44, so waiting for slow swing timers is something I still haven't gotten used to). So I thought about a 31/30 flurry build - losing the PvP oriented talents, and focussing more on Me Me Me ;-).

Then, something struck me ... I could take 2 pts in BF for the extra damage, or leave the points in flurry ...

Ultimately, it boils down to ... 10% haste (3.145 swing vs 2.775) or 4% extra damage (both proc on crits, so that shouldn't make a difference) ... Hmmm, I think I'm actually starting to answer my own question.

If your weapon does an average of 100 every 3.1 seconds, increasing the speed to 2.7 seconds would mean the damage dealt per 3.1 seconds would be ~115, right? So that's a 15% increase in DPS compared to the 4% from Blood Frenzy.

Assuming the average damage doesn't go down with a faster swing speed. I don't know if it does.

Yes, you're right ... 100 damage every 2.7 seconds = 3.7 damage every 0.1 seconds.

3.7 damage every 0.1 seconds for 3.1 seconds is very much 115 damage. Meaning a DPS increase of 15%.

Thanks, I normally think these calcs through myself - got a bit of brain fade there :-D

The only other consideration is that Blood Frenzy can be kept up by rending and not having to wait for a crit to proc it. Unless your personal crit rate is low, I doubt BF would catch up to Flurry on the damage charts.

As you mentioned, grouping isn't a consideration. And BF is a group buff. All melee to that target is increased.

max out flurry. blood frenzy is only truly viable in comparison to 5/5 flurry when you are buffing other sources of physical damage greater than your own in a raid setup. another 4% to your damage done while soloing is... well, pretty much kak.
