Meta gem question.Follow

#1 Aug 28 2008 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
Whats better for a ret pally meta gem... the thundering skyfire diamond? or the relentless earthstorm.

For those that can`t remeber... the thundering give 240 haste for 5 secs, and the earthstorm gives 3% crit damage increase.

I`m just curious as to which would be best, I`m currently useing the earthstorm, but I`m getting much more curious. Any an all comments are welcome.

The earthstorm one (which also gives +12 agility) is best for pvp (because it isn't a random proc chance, and negates enemy resilience), and the thundering one.... well i was about to say it seems good for pve, but i think i'd still choose the earthstorm diamond.

5 seconds isn't very long. Does it proc very often?

I think it has a 5% chance to proc, there abouts, I was just curious if other people had used it an liked it or not. I`m hesitateing on trying it until I hear more about it.

RED, no question. Ret pally=crit based spec, RED is aprox 0.5% crit(12agi) + 3% increase to ALL crit dam.

I'd agree with the guys above but I use the +20AP and minor run speed increase one from the dude in Allerian Stronghold (don't know what the equivelent for Horde is)

There were 2 reasons for my choice:
1) It was effectlvely free (8 spirit shards)
2) The minor run speed increase which helps in pvp when chasing people down with other speed increasing things (I know they don't stack)

Also 20 AP is also helpful.

I have been quite happy with it though 3% damage to all crits is not to be sniffed at.

I am not sure how good the thundering one is as it is yet another 'chance' thing and also the 5 sec duration is not very long. The chance and the duration may mean that it procs just as you kill someone and has run out before you get to the next one, or it procs on the hit you get just before they kil you.

Go for something that offers a steady/guaranteed increase rather than adding yet another chance to a spec that is chance based.

Cheers

I used to run that meta from the shards, its is relatively free, considering all the other gear is medeocre at best. I did do some homework on that one, it only gives you 8% run speed increase, same as the minor run speed enchant.
So all its doing is allowing you to keep up not gain on people in pvp, thats why I switched to pursuit of justice, I can actually gain or get away if I want to. Cause fighting a hunmter or mage or warlock that you just can`t reach is a pain in my a55.

For my Ret set I use RED in combination with Cat's Swiftness on my boots. Basically, just like my rogue. The added crit value is very good, and yes, increased movement speed is essential in PvP.

yeah, definitely would go with the relentless one. the 20AP & run speed one would only be good in pvp, but even there you if you're gearing/specc'ing for pvp you should have PoJ and the relentless one is still better.

Reduces the chance you'll be hit by spells by 3% and increases movement and mounted movement speed by 15%. This does not stack with other movement speed increasing effects.

Why would you use any sort of speed increasing gems or enchants as ret?

Some people argue (yes, even now), "Why take Pursuit of Justice when you can just use a speed enchant or meta gem?", which I believe is totally ridiculous. Instead it should be, "Why waste an enchant or Meta gem when you can talent for speed increase?" Point is some poeple weigh 3 talent points more than they do an enchant or mate gem choosing to get the speed increase from gear rather than spec. I never understood why >.<
