Druid Threat Talent Gone??Follow

If you check out the beta talent tree you'll notice that the tier 2 talent that increased threat in bear form by 15% has been replaced by an increase swipe damage talent. Any idea if blizzard is just planning to make threat increase a passive skill? I would assume so unless they are just planning to totally destroy bear tanking, which would make zero sense.

The term Blizzard is using to describe what is happening to threat talents for all tanking classes is "baked in". In other words, it'll be passive...you won't need to spend talents points to get it. My concern, however, is that Blizzard has acknowledged that feral tanks need to have their mechanics reworked to be more viable end-game tanks. The bridge patch is around the corner but I'm not hearing much about love for feral tanks. I'm hoping they get on it.

You mean our inability to block those crushing blows?

From my understanding, not only are crushing blows gone, but the talented threat increases AND the 30% of salve are simply being added to the innate tanking skills. Namely, Righteous Fury, Bear Form, and Defensive Stance will still have the exact same threat, relative to DPS, that they currently have.

I could be mistaken, but as I've understood what I've read off Beta that is how it is functioning.

So if BoSalvation is being removed, does this mean that DPS will do less threat, or will every DPS class unable to tank have an innate reduction?

ok this has been discused before but heres how it's gonna work.

RF BEAR and DEF stance will already have the imp threat into them. BoS is being removed but looks like all tanks are getting some new threat moves but dps is also getting new damagemoves. also if you notice boomkins go from 20% threat reduction in resto tree to 30% in bal tree something you would already spec into. so there is 10% there. with out haveing BoS looks like dps may have to.. oh i dont know watch threat and not just give tank 2 sec with mob then go just about full blast spamming spells. it aint that bad if you think it is try playing eq with 72 man raids and no threat meters lol. i didnt look at other classes but i'm sure they may have some threat reductions also if they dont have threat droping ablities like cower ect.

Mazra, think of it this way. They're giving tanks anti salve. Instead of DPS doing 30% less threat, tanks are doing 30% more, and then they're changing salve considerably (making it castable on a target which lowers their threat for the next X seconds by X%, but also lowers their dps by X%).

Barring new skills, talents, whatever, relative threat levels should be the same as having salve on all your DPS all the time.

At least as far as I understand it, that's how it should work.

If there's any misinformation in here somebody feel free to point it out. Things have been changing so much on Beta it's hard to follow the changes for the classes I play let alone some of the one's I don't. :(

My assumption would be that everyone's damage-threat is reduced 30%, and under certain effects (Bear Form, Righteous Fury and Defensive Stance) this penalty is removed, and previous bonuses are now active. I'm not a Blizzard representative or anything though, and I haven't read anything on the matter.

i haven't heard anything about dps doing 30% less damage. it looks like tanks get some boost but it looks like they are gonna make it so you have to watch your threat just like you have to do in 5 mans when you donthave a pally there to salv the dps. i'm sure if there was a 30% threat reduction someone would have went ape **** and posted it by now. may have to check the beta fourms and see if they are saying anything about it or not.

correct it's gonna be 10 sec debuff where threat is reduced 2% every 2 sec and your damage is reduced by 10%. unless it's been changed since last i read it.

crushing blows are still in the xpac, only theyve been pushed to mobs that are +4 or higher, instead of +3. all raid bosses (skull mobs) are set at +3, so vs a raid boss, there will be no crushes. in short, while doing level appropriate content, you wont ever get crushed.

I think the big change for druids will have more to do with itemization. As it is, the extra armor on all our tanking gear uses a lot of item budget, plus it's gear that's really only useful for one half of one spec of one class. If they can rework bear druids to tank in mostly the same gear cats and rogues use, we'll have less clutter on loot tables, fewer useless drops. My guess is that we will have the most health of the 4 tanking classes.

What druid tanking drops have you been seeing on loot tables? Exactly, there are no leather tanking drops. Period.

I haven't checked WotLK in the past few days, so i haven't seen any raid loot from level 80 content (if it's been shown). However, if you compare how many druid tanking drops are in kara vs. the amount of other tanking drops, it's not that great. Yet, the druids still manage to gear up as tanks, and I am hoping that blizzard will implement something equivalent to badge loot, crafted items meant for druid tanking, or maybe some rep rewards.

Blizzard has made a few slip ups, but taking out the viability of a tank because of gear, is something they probably would not do.

How many druid tanking drops are there in normal instances in BC? None, until you hit heroics. We geared up in BC off quest drops and leather DPS gear with high stam and agi, a few crafted pieces, world drops and a rep reward, and generic tanking gear (neck/cloak/rings/trinkets).

There are no leather tanking drops with extra armor. This is to do with their whole simplifying the loot system. Same way they have changes healing & spell damage to both just work off spellpower. They want items dropping that can be used by multiple members of a raid - not just one member (not sure what they are doing about caster plate though lol).

So far they do not seem to be sure how we will be tanking, but being the Hi-Armor tank is not looking likely. If they do do this, then it is possible that they will just include a higher armor multiplier in dire-bear form just as they have rolled the threat generation in to bear form.

It really worries me that at the moment they don't seem to have a very focused vision of how tanking is going to work for each of the different classes. They want all 4 tanking classes to be equally capable of main-tanking, but they don't seem to know how they are going to make it happen.

Well, without a shield or super-high-outrageous armor, I don't see how druids could be viable tanks at all, which kind of pisses me off.... What we would have would be a crapload of health, 40% dodge, no parry, and no blocking to make up for lower armor. And as anyone knows, after a certain point, health is just a buffer (well...there are bigger heals from imp lotp with more health, but that is insignificant).

They have to be careful since they don't want to buff resto's in arena, and every spec gets dire bear. I'd almost rather make dire bear a deep feral talent, paired with a new model that should make most people happy. ((since there is no dire cat. ; ;) Then have improved dire bear so that can tweak our armor in a healthy way.

As it stands feral is far from finished, so I'm interested to see what they will come up with in the coming weeks.

That is actually a great idea, gryphonstalker, having dire bear be a deep feral talent. But with us getting less dodge from agility (not to mention crit, but that is beside the point), and having to talent to get the same amount of armor...I don't see anything but a nerf, and it isn't like feral tanks are the most preferred now.

That sounds like a lot of fun in the 5 & 10 mans I run with my mates. There is often fierce competition on the DPS meters (we are in BT/Hyjal gear having fun in Kara). I can hear the howls on vent when someone gets a salv put on them and doesn't realise for a bit :) As good as the ninja misdirects to the rogue as our hunter tries to remove him from the meter for that fight :)
