Sooooo...a few questions about 70.Follow

#1 Aug 26 2008 at 3:45 AM Rating: Default
Right now I'm lvl 67, and a half, and I expect to be 70 by the end of the week (I tend to level quickly) what I want to know is a few things actually:

1) Professions
Right now I'm lvl 350 tailoring, and I specc'd shadowcloth because I am a frost mage. I also have 260 enchanting but I'm finding it ridiculously hard to level up...I should of gotten it earlier, but right now the main problem is everything I get from quest rewards I can't DE because I need 275 -_- however, if I were to just splurge and but my mats at the AH it would easily cost me around 250g, which is bad, because I only have 502g as it is and I'm saving up for my flying mount.

2) GEAR!!!!
This is probably the thing that's been bugging me the most, at level 70 how should I go about getting good gear? The guild I'm in tends to PvP fairly heavily, so their advice was to start off with a full epic set from PvP, and if I don't want to do that I should "at least get the weapons" I do admit that I plan on getting the Merciless gladiator's war staff, just because it looks awesome and from what I can tell it has some good bonuses. (Currently using battle mages baton)

But with the armor, (sorry I can't link anything), I currently have my chest, hands, and shoulders, from the "Warlord's regalia" set (PvP lvl 60) a lot of the other stuff is just random quest rewards. I've heard that a shadowcloth set + spellfire set compliment each other nicely, since they're both only 3 and 2 piece's respectfully. So should I work on this first or just listen to the guys in my guild and get a PvP set?

I mean, what do you level 70's do all day if you can't quest!?!?! (Besides dailies)!?!

Any help is appreciated ^_^

pvp, play of auction house, lvl proffesion, make twinks, help guildies, make money for flying mounts, get rep.

anything else?

Okay, so there are lot's of things to do at 70- that's not the part of my topic I was really concerned about.

Plz refer to "professions" and "gear" (paragraphs 2 & 3) and make the appropriate response based upon the information held there.

In other words, I am not seriously concerned about what to do after level 70.

its difficult for anyone to give advice on gear when we dont know your spec, ideally posting this will give you better feedback and advice. now to the topic:

1 - professions:
tailoring is a good all rounder for mages so getting this to 375 and getting the 3 piece epic crafted set most appropriate for you is priority 1 (for me as a fire mage this is the spellfire set).
most of the tailoring patterns from 350 onwards come from rep rewards or drops from heroic instances and raiding. this leads on nicely to your next topic Gear.

2 - Gear:
The merciless gladiators warstaff is one of the best examples of gear that can also be used for PvE. In fact its one of THE best, i myself have the regular gladiators warstaff and this will last me/you until you start raiding (such as The Eye for the Nexus Key). I also have the cuffs from PvP, again, another great PvE item and easy to obtain.

Personally I hate PvP so I avoid it. You dont say whether you like PvP or not so if you do, grind away in the BGs etc. however if you're like me you may prefer to get gear upgrades from Raiding and running Heroics. when people hit 70 they typlically craft what they can, get some epics from Heroics and then hit Karazhan. As we're so close to the release of WotLK i suggest trying it out for fun and to get experience but dont worry to much about getting far in TBC raiding as when the expansion is released you will start to replace your epics with greens dropped from quests etc...

Personally I wouldn't overly sweat the profession gear since it sounds like you will do a bit of PvP. The S2 gear is much better, and I have never been a big fan of FSW set. The Spellfire set is much better for PvE but your not fire and you didn't mention you would be raiding at all either. So, with those considered and discarded (as my opinion), I would suggest you grab the Rep PvP gear and go PvP your heart out for a while.

As for the money issue, you really should be DEing your unused quest rewards. Get that skill up at least to that point. There is a sticky in the professions forum on leveling enchanting that is well written.

This is very untrue, your number one money maker is going to be doing all the quests you haven't done yet. It is after all these are exhausted that dailies become the next lucrative.

Personally if your not going to raid fire, which is bad to start with, I would NOT waste your money on tailoring and NOT GET the FSW set. Tailoring is a great profession for mages, but you really should be fire and youll see your dps jump a lot with 3 piece spellfire, 2 piece spellstrike and epic PvP staff. I pick those 5 items because you dont need a group or anything to get a single one. That alone and some instance blues can allow you to put up respectable numbers up to gruuls. By then you'll have enough badges to round out your set and maybe grab some t4 in the process.

On my mage i am 375 tailor, 300 enc mainly because im a bit lazy but the money sink is huge. My guild already had a few encs with many patterns to me picking that up was not crucial. So i leveled to 300 so i can DE everything in the game and can basically give myself free encs or sell the mats for profit to buy gems or mats for spell thread. I would consider this however, it may not be for you.

If you refuse to ever get out of frost (which im hesitant to say that you ever would say never on that) get out of tailoring and pick up a gathering profession to make money on the AH in my humble opinion.

Hm, well I am frost spec right now.

Judging from the posts I've seen here I am going to assume my guildies were correct- a good starting point would be to get PvP gear if nothing else. I plan on working my way up in raids/heroics after that.

And about my spec's the reason I'm not to worried about being frost is a few reasons actually:

-I don't run out of mana. I can go without drinking something for about 5 battles against my level, or even one level higher. It doesn't bug me, and I don't feel I should have to go for 10 fights without drinking some water.
-More damage? With the right combination of frostbolt + ice lance I can easily do 4000 damage! (2k crits, one from frostbolt one from ice lance) this is provided winter's chill is on the enemy (which it usually is) I just don't really know why it would be practical to do MORE damage then this, and my gear isn't even spectacular.

Anyway, more input is very welcome- I don't plan on taking anything here as what I should do, rather I intend on seeing what a majority of mages seem to think.

If you're going to jump into pvp right away I'd go ahead and get the blue pvp gear that's available to buy from various factions at honored. It will get you some resilience/boost your HP and make the BG grind a little more pleasant experience.
