I finally got 3/3 in Cheat Death. I must be misunderstanding what it does. I've tested it many times, and each time I get the final blow it says in my battle log:

"Player gains Cheat Death."
"Player dies."
"Player suffers a 10% durability loss."

I pay attention to make sure that i'm looking at an attack that would bring me to 0HP. What's this thing do? From the way I understood it, instead of taking you to 0hp it would bring you back to 10% health. It's not doing that. I'm confused?

"You have a 100% chance to completely avoid an attack which would otherwise kill you. All damage taken will be reduced by up to 90% for 3 seconds (modified by resilience). This effect cannot occur more than once per minute."

-Current Tooltip according to Worldofwarcraft.com

So...

In your example you were fighting an NPC monster (thus durability loss).

If the monster is hitting you for say... 300 damage a pop.

Cheat death will proc when? whenever you fall below 300 hit points right? so >299 would be a "killing blow".

So when you hit 299 health, and the monster is going to kill you on the next swing... you live! thanks to cheat death. Now you have 3 seconds where damage is reduced by 90% so now all attacks from this mob for the next three seconds will only hit you for 30 damage.

So lets say he gets one more attack in. This puts you at 279 health. Once cheat death wears off..

a hit of 300 will kill you.

Read the tooltip.

If you had over 10% hp it brings you down. It doesn't bring you up.

You are absorbing the killing blow then going down with the enxt blow...

They recently changed cheat death, that is the old tooltip. The new one states the 10% rule and now you need resilience for it to go up to 90%. I am assuming the OP has none...

Yea i searched it on Alla first and it mentioned that. But I just so happened to have the Rogue talent calculator in another tab so i went with the "official" tooltip.

In any sense the post behind mine cleared up what i left out.

Most likely the case - now it's 4x the amount of crit chance reduction from resilience. Mine is 384 = 19.48% = 77.92% dmg reduction for 3 seconds.

I just PVP'd for 6 days straight, getting 140 marks of honor from WSG and 20 from AB.

And i'm doing about 100 more at 49.

I don't see what theres to laugh at.

That has nothing to do with your spec, now does it :) plus, they're just messing with ya! No need for a defensive attitude.

Cheat Death still saves you from one attack. It's so much fun to see a Sub rogue think it's a good idea to not run away from Enfeeble, get blown up by the nova for 0 damage, then fly right into an infernal.

Any lock using an infernal pretty much makes me laugh.

Then I gank them and laugh more.

Because PvP against an opponent that doesn't know what they're doing isn't really PvP, it's PvI. Player versus Idiot.

How do you figure out what your damage reduction is? Like i have 402 Res. How could i figure out the damage reduction b/c of it?

I could have read this wrong, but it sounds to me like Ehcks was referring to the Prince fight in Karazhan... you know, Enfeeble --> Shadow Nova ---> Rogue lives thanks to Cheat Death but gets clipped by an Infernal's naughty placement?

Posting right after waking up isn't my forte, I guess.

Granted the post was incredibly retarded, since no rogues should be sub in PvE content.

Well, it's Karazhan. You got Sub rogues, MM hunters, frost mages, non-prot tanks. Some rogue who's been spending too much time in BGs covered in S2+Guardian's+greens comes along and dies to an infernal because they thought Cheat Death would save them.

It makes me laugh.

I find dailies are really different after a night of Guinness and Bushmills... impossible after a night of Corona and Tres Generaciones.

Frost mages specced right break 2000 DPS on Brut. Smiley: tongue

The only reason that people should be going into Kara as a PvP spec is if they're running with a group that does Kara so well that they're sub two hour runs even with PvP specs and gear.

Going into this a bit more...

Frost is actually exteremly viable in a lot of BT as well. Although I don't have firsthand experience, just what I had discussed with my old 3s partner.

Oh and...

I invented Druid/Rogue/Frostmage.

I wish I knew anything about that. My guild failed to kill Kael'thas last night, failed to kill Naj'entus a couple nights before. Winterchill went down, but Anetheron wiped us easy.

Still no Vashj either.

So I can't wait for the expansion.
