As a BE, my mount quest was hella nice. Bought everything (including the Dark Runes), solo'd the Tyr's Hand water, and asked another Pally who was soloing Strat at the time to invite me and help out. 300g and a few hours later, I'm a Blood Knight and riding the best mount ever :)
I actually think the BE quest line for the epic mount is easier. Everything is closer together. I mean, most of what you do is in Eastern and Western Plaguelands. Oh, and the Dark Runes drop like crazy in Scholo now; unless you're having troubles finding a group for the instance, it's really not worth the money to buy them from the AH. They were going for 35g a piece when I did my quest, but around 7-8 of them dropped in Scholo in one full run.
The hardest parts, imho, were the Tyr's Hand Holy Water (those arcane-spewing mages were tough, especially 2 at a time) and getting the Pristine Black Diamond. I ultimately had to have a buddy help me for the former, and a guildie had an extra Diamond for the latter. I got lucky on the Strat part of the quest; a 70 Paladin who remembered how hard it was came to my aid, bringing with him a 70 priest and a 70 warlock. We almost did the whole instance, but it was late and so we decided against it.
To answer the OP's question, though, I definitely think it's worth it. It feels somewhat prestigious. ESPECIALLY if you're just turned 60 and you have it. I run into Paladins who are 61-64 who don't have it, and I feel somehow special.
