This is a very situational based on the heroic. You would need much better gear for Magisters than for something like Ramps. For the easier heroics, you could manage with entry kara level gear. If you have kara/t4 epics, you could probably manage all heroics.

This thread gives advice on gear for entry-level Kara, it works for heroics, too. Really, what you need to do is get the best gear you can find from the content you're in, then move up. Pre-heroics, that's crafted blues/epics, rep blues/epics, and quest greens/blues. PvP gear works, too, if that's your thing (I hate PvP, but I did enough for S1 shoulders back in Arena season 3).

Great link Astarin.

Sensen here is what I walked into my first heroic in

Stylin' Purple Hat (Crafted SSO glyph +18 Stam, +20 Resil)
Necklace of the Deep (Crafted 2x +12 stam gems) - *Note- I have the SSO neckpiece but I like this one for the added dodge atm
s1 Dragonhide spaulders (PVP 2x +4 agil/ +6 stam - and the Scryer defense glyph)
Resolute Cape (Crafted with +12 Agility enchant)
Heavy Clefthoof Vest (Crafted 3x +12 Stam gems +6 all stats enchant)
Umberhowl's Collar (Quest reward from ShadowmoonValley Chain +12 stam enchant)
s1 Dragonhide gloves (PVP +15 agility enchant)
Manimal's Cinch (Quest reward from ShadowmoonValley Chain)
Heavy Clefthoof Leggings (Crafted 3x +12 Stam gems, Nethercleft leg armor)
Heavy Clefthoof Boots (Crafted 2x +12 Stam Gems, +10 Stam leather armor kit)
Delicate Eternium Ring (Crafted)
Iron Band of the Unbreakable (Lieutenant Drake - First boss, regular Old Hillsbrad Foothills)
Charm of Alacrity (Trinket from level 60-61 quest chain in Hellfire Peninsula)
(sorry can't remember this trinket)
Braxxis Staff of Slumber (BoE World Drop normally found on AH for around 50g, +35 Agility Enchant)
Idol of the Wild (Colossal Menace quest chain in Hellfire Peninsula)

At this point my gear had me at uncrittable (2.6% between resil and def rating with 3/3 Survival of the Fittest)
I don't remember the stats are far as hp and dodge went.

The key is to tell everyone (hopefully get a guildy run) that it's your first heroic. Pick one you're very familiar with on regular, read up online to see if it has anything special on heroic and have fun. :-)

BTW, if you wanna armory me now, I have progressed to the point from that gear starting point to tanking every heroic(including shattered halls, shadow labs, Magisters Terrace), Full Kara clears and the first two bosses in ZA (Bear and Eagle) in the last 4 months.

Good Luck and have fun!

Good job nim. Your post really exemplifies how helpful you can be. If he had asked how to gear, super, except he asked for baseline stats for tanking heroics. So as helpful as emmerald's list is, and although it will get him to that stat level, he won't know he's there unless we get a little more detailed.

Btw, Sensen, aim for about 14k hp, 22k armor and around 28-30% dodge in bear form. A link to your armory would help as well.

um the two post above me by Astarinthedruid already have the guide on how to gear bear for tanking with how much stats you need to tank and the gear example. It would be a waste of our time if he has to read my post, which will be the same thing again on how to gear bear. So, I saved us time and just put in a link to full gear list and where to get those gear.
I am sorry it wasn't to your liking Galenmoon. And to sensen, check Astarinthedruid's link for guide and my link for dressing.

I've started to venture into heroics and have tanked the easiest two (mech, sp) w/out breaking a sweat at 14k health, 23k armor, 27% dodge. I've got clefthoof, earthwarden, thoriumweave cape, sso neck, pvp for everything else (head, shoulders, wrist, belt) and some meh rings and adamantite figurine. You could probably go in with less as long as you have a good healer.

Fair enough, my post does look unsuitably harsh now that I re-read it. Apparently working 28 hours on 4 hours sleep is a bad idea. My apologies.

What it should have looked like was something more along the lines of a sentence or two saying as such and telling him that Emmerald's list is the best to find druid gearing equip. Just so he would know what he was looking at or was getting into.

my armory will show me in resto pvp gear+specc, so no point in posting it..

My stats are: 14.5k hp, 17.4k armor, 23.71% dodge, 388def + 85resi and ~1400ap in bear form...

You gotta upgrade; that'll get you crushed in heroics. If you want gear pointers, link to your armory and log out in your tanking gear. I find from when I went through this process that the regular posters on this forum are excellent at recommending upgrades/gem/enchants, etc.

This is why I love playing a druid. Most other classes forums this would have probably devolved into a shouting match. Druids attract a nicer, more mature kind of player. (Except for an alliance ganking scum, Punkers on my server who terrorises PvP island :) )

Just a question, how hard is it to tank as a druid? I've never once even spec'd into feral so I am clueless.

And Rarebeast.... My guild is totally those ganking d-bags lol. We tried sunwell for craps and laughs got one trash down and called it square. Then we proceeded to circle the island killing every horde in sight. I dubbed us "The Roving Pack of ********"

How hard is it to tank as a druid? Both very easy and very hard....

Easy because we have few buttons to worry about. Spam mangle and lacerate, maul when you have extra rage or swipe when there are multiple mobs and taunt. Pretty simple, can be bound on 1-5. Not like a warrior.

Hard for the same reason. Almost no oh-sh*t buttons, little damage avoidance. Frenzied regen doesnt scale and is only a small dent when you're fighting a boss and your healer, say, gets MC'd (as mine did in HMech last night). Very few ways to get aggro on a large number of mobs at once, unlike, oh, a pally. Basically, if mangle/lacerate doesnt do it, or your insane armor/health can't protect you (ie, magic damage), you are screwed.
