Hi all

My druid is a Leatherworker currently, and I am thinking of dropping skinning and grabbing another manufacturing profession, and raising up my hunter alt to gather for me.

Any thought on what would be good?

Options include:

Engineering - Mote extractor + epic helmet. Good stuff, but will they apply in WOTLK?
Enchanting - Ring enchants + Possible money. Also sharding things in late dungeons will make it self sustaining.
Alchemy - Will always definitely be helpful in every expansion for every class.
Inscription - ??? I guess this will be good?

any opinions on this?

Started a druid myself recently and have been trying to figure out if leatherworking is worth it, the alternative i had in mind was alchemy. It seems to me that alchemy would work in almost every situation; gold making, leveling, grinding, raiding, expansions, pvp.

Leathworking is very good, drums are good end game, Clefthoof set is a fantastic base for a tanking set and Windhawk armor is ungodly for Healing and Balance.

Just not sure what else I want with it.

Yeah the drums i heard are really good which is the main reason i have taken lw. Kinda like FSW (tailoring) i was looking for that epic set a lw can make, but i heard that there are a lot more cloth drops thats better for pve healing (good chance im going resto), ill look into Windhawk armor.

So, seeying as lw is really worth it for you, wouldnt alchemy bring you and your groups more then engineering? Seems to me you would always have pots/flasks/whatever and never run out of cash cause people will always by them.

However i just though of something, the one thing that makes alchemy realy worth it on a druid is when its combined with herbalism, since you can gather herbs with decent speed due to travelform/instant flightform and such...

Oh well, go take a look at epic paterns/recipes/plans/rep rewards for engeneering/alchemy and make a top 3 wannahave list and decide which is the most usefull to ya.

In my opinion, the answer partly depends on what you have access to. For instance, I wouldn't really recommend taking up Alchemy unless you have an herbalist that can supply you. If you start buying mats off the AH to make pots with, you're losing money. The mats are usually more expensive than what you produce. Same thing with Engineering...you'll need a miner to supply you, otherwise you lose money (or, even more money).

Enchanting is a viable option, if you have deep pockets to start out with. It's not too bad to level to 300 and can be done for a profit, actually. But, the higher you get, the more costly it becomes to max to 375.

It also depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to make money, pick up mining or herbalism and skip a production craft altogether. If you want something for personal benefit, then pick the one that you think will be the most beneficial.

Enchanting will cost you the most to level and get recipes. You won't really make any money off of tips, because people rarely tip well. The real money in enchanting is DEing stuff. If you want it purely for money, don't even worry about recipes. Just get it up high enough to DE lvl 70 stuff and you're golden. Personally, I like being able to offer a service to my guildies, so I farm/buy all the recipes I can get my hands on.

I'm a bit confused by some of the answers, as said in the original post I am keeping Leatherworking and looking to get another manufacturing profession, with my hunter alt doing the gathering for me.

All the options I listed are manufacturing professions, but most of the responses seem to think I want a replacement for LW. Money wont be a problem, as I'll have my alt feeding mats to me and farming for cash.

I went herby alch and it works out fine. At 68 I'll be one of the best herb gathering classes in the game. Seems to work out well for a healing druid.

EDIT: Alch is very good. Strong potions that I use in every instance.

At this stage, any decision you make should probably be based on what each profession will give you in WotLK. Each profession is getting some abilities only available to the crafter/gatherer - similar to drums, enchanters ting enchants etc.

I haven't seen enough to make a decision at this stage, particularly when things can change during Beta.

I'm in a similar boat, only i have just decided to reroll an alli druid, from a horde...everything except druid. Browsing the forums cuz i cant decide between skin/lw and herb/alch. Both give me nice things, herb/skin will be nice money while leveling, but i lose out on some good armor or potions. MY advice to the OP, is if you have alts feeding you mats/money, go LW/alch. And you should be set. Make alot of really nice gear that u can use, plus drums. But also have the advantage of potions and things. Might get complicated making level 70 stuff while having alts farm for everything, but really good benefits to the situation.

Thanks for the thoughts, I am thinking alchemy is good, since I can get myself potted up, and it also has those nice stones, which presumably will get updated in WOTLK
